BETA BETA CHAPTER of ALPHA PHI at MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY Spring 2020 The Ivy A lpha Phi recently held our largest and most elegant event of the year, Red Dress Gala. Beta Beta Chapter spent more than just one day raising funds and awareness for Women's Heart Health. In fact, we dedicated a whole week. This year's Philanthropy Week took place from February 3rd to February 8th. In preparation for the week, sweatshirts were sold for $30 to promote our philanthropy. For every sweatshirt sold Beta Beta donated $2 to the Alpha Phi Foundation and its dedication to research, scholarships, and leadership programs. We are proud to announce more than 140 sweatshirts were sold. From there, our successful week continued. Day 1: Percentage Night at Blue Owl from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. A portion of sales were donated directly to Women's Heart Health Research. Sisters also made cards for Sparrow Hospital during Chapter. Day 2: A blood drive was held at the International Center from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. More than 40 men and women in the Greek community donated, rasing awareness for Women's Heart Health. Day 3: Cold-pressed juices and trail mix bars were sold at IM West. Students received a red dress pin with their purchase to raise further awareness. All profits went directly back to the Foundation. Day 4: A sisterhood CPR class was conducted at the Alpha Phi house. The East Lansing Police Department was gracious enough to come to the house and teach sisters crucial CPR skills. Day 5: Alpha Phi International Wear Red Day. We held an Instagram raffle incentivizing students to wear red. Greek life students who direct messaged a picture in red or in the philanthropy sweatshirt were entered into a drawing to win a $50 gift card. Day 6: Our favorite event, Red Dress Gala. Red Dress was organized by event chairmen Alex Austin '18 and Kelsey Werner '18, who did a fantastic job. The gala was held at the Marriott in downtown East Lansing. The evening included 35 items for a live and silent auction, along with a tin can auction. Auction items included a hot air balloon ride, beauty items, football and basketball tickets, Chapter House parking spots, gifts cards, and much more. Red Dress 2020 had 325 attendees—a very successful turnout to end a successful week. Thank you to everyone who came to show their support for Women's Heart Health and Alpha Phi.
