It was her first big project following her successful run on "Pretty Little Liars," and it ultimately didn't last long, since it wasn't renewed after its initial 13 ep- isodes. However, the actress who played her sister (with a striking resemblance to Hale) also has another series, since Brooke Lyons is a regular on NBC's "Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector." Q : I've heard of the Tom Hanks show "Bosom Buddies," but when was it actually on? Had he started his movie career by then? — Ken Logan, Grand Junc- tion, Colo. A : The then-future two-time Oscar winner had made only a couple of movies — the low-budget horror flick "He Knows You're Alone," and a TV version of the Rona Jaffe novel "Mazes and Mon- sters" — by the time "Bosom Buddies" launched on ABC in the fall of 1980. Paralleling such tales as "Some Like It Hot," it cast Hanks and Peter Scolari as pals who disguised themselves as females to take advantage of an inex- pensive hotel for women. The show ran two sea- sons, and shortly after it end- ed, Hanks really took off in movies in the Ron Howard-di- rected "Splash." One nice as- pect of his "Bosom Buddies" days is that Scolari also has been featured in some of his later projects, including "That Thing You Do!" (which Hanks also wrote and directed), "The Polar Express" and the HBO miniseries "From the Earth to the Moon." Q : Why don't the movie stu- dios or TV networks col- orize the Christmas classics? It would only make sense to colorize "It's a Wonderful Life," "Miracle on 34th Street" and others that were filmed in black-and-white. — Tim Free- man, Wheeling, W. Va. A : Actually, both titles you mention were colorized, and they can be found in that form on home-video releases of those titles along with the origi - nal black-and-white prints. The fact that the colorized versions are shown on television so rare- ly indicates that many viewers prefer to watch those movies as they originally were released, and it was a conscious decision by their studios to release them that way, since movies filmed in color were a common practice by the time those pictures were made in the mid-1940s.
