March 8 - 14, 2020 WHATS UP! T5 BY MICHELLE ROSE TV Media The long ride: In AMC's "The Walking Dead," Daryl Dix- on is the picture of cool — espe- cially in a bleak, zombie-filled world — when riding around on his modified 1992 Honda CB750 Nighthawk. In real life, actor/artist/pho- tographer Norman Reedus — the man behind the crossbow- wielding TV character — is equally the picture of cool in his second AMC series, "Ride With Norman Reedus," which returns for a fourth season this Sunday, March 8. The zombie-free, unscripted series follows Reedus and some of his famous friends as he trav- els the world to find great food and even better scenery. Riding a custom Triumph Tiger 800 XCA, Reedus previously invited viewers to tag along as he toured Sonoma County with Steven Yeun (Glenn in "The Walking Dead"), Florida with actor Peter Fonda ("Easy Rider," 1969), and even Scotland with his frequent "Walking Dead" passenger, Me- lissa McBride (aka Carol). The motorcycle-centered travelogue is a passion project of sorts for Reedus, who has a deep love for motorcycle culture. During an appearance on "Conan," Reedus revealed that his character was supposed to ride a horse, but the actor's un- ease led him to suggest a motor- cycle instead, especially since his character's brother Merle, played by Michael Rooker ("Guardians of the Galaxy," 2014), rode one. Speaking of Rooker, he'll be joining Reedus this season for a road trip through Alabama and Georgia. Other guests include Milo Ventimiglia ("This Is Us"), Ryan Hurst ("The Walking Dead"), Clifton Collins Jr. ("Westworld"), and more, while the destinations range from Kentucky to Japan. Dempsey's back: It's been five years since he was a net- work TV regular, but Patrick Dempsey ("Grey's Anatomy") is returning to prime time — just not as McDreamy. In his first series regular role since 2015, Dempsey will play the lead in the CBS pilot "Ways & Means." The political drama centers on a congressional lead- er who has lost his faith in the system. But instead of playing along or leaving politics alto- gether, he decides to change the system from within: he secretly teams up with an idealistic con- gresswoman from the other par- ty to subvert the gridlocked sys- tem and save the American po- litical system — without either of them getting caught, of course. The series is the brainchild of Republican consultant Mike Murphy and "SEAL Team" showrunner Ed Redlich, who has been tasked with penning the pilot's script. He'll also serve as executive producer alongside former CBS entertainment pres- ident Nina Tassler and her Pat- Ma Productions partner, Denise Di Novi, as well as 3 Arts' Tom Lassally. Dempsey will also get an ex- ecutive producer credit for the series, as will his manager, Joan- nie Burstein. In fact, the actor's involvement was reportedly key to getting CBS onboard with the project, which was formerly ti- tled "The Whip." It should be noted that Dempsey hasn't been complete- ly absent from TV screens dur- ing the past five years. In addi- tion to his role in the 2016 film "Bridget Jones's Baby," Dempsey played the lead in the 2018 Epix miniseries "The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair" and worked as a producer on "The Art of Racing in the Rain" (2019). Play on: If you love "Ellen's Game of Games," you're not the only one: NBC loves it, too. The family-friendly unscripted series is now into its third season and it's been a consistent ratings performer for the network. So it wasn't a total surprise to hear that NBC has gone ahead and re - newed it for a fourth season. Host Ellen DeGeneres an- nounced the news on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" before show- ing highlights from the past three seasons. "I'm so excited," the host said. "I love this show so much, it makes me so happy. It's games … I love games. It com- bines all my favorite things: priz- es and surprises. I'm sure you've seen it, but if you haven't, you've been missing out." If that's you, here's how the game show works: Members of the studio audiences are select- ed to play four different games from a roster that includes a few fan-favorites from her daytime show. They could be playing "Dizzy Dash," in which two competitors are spun in arm- chairs to disorient them before playing a round of trivia. Or "Aw Snap!," in which tethered com- petitors race to collect apples on either side of the stage using only their mouths. The winner of each prelimi- nary round advances to "Know or Go," in which all four contes- tants stand on a platform to an- swer more trivia. If they get a question wrong, a trap door opens beneath their feet and they literally drop out of the competition. The last one stand- ing (again, literally) gets to play "Hot Hands," a 30-second celeb- rity quiz that could earn them a $100,000 grand prize if they guess them all correctly.
