Info at QuartzsiteFoodBank.com or 928-927-5479 By Jackie Deal Since I'm too undisciplined to keep a diary, I've retitled this a "Saga." Now sagas were "Scandina- vian prose stories and histories." I make no claim to being Scandina- vian, I don't even own a ski sweat- er, but I like the sound of the word: saga. (It's pronounced sog not sag.) It sounds sad and miserable, soggy, not saggy. That's how I'm feeling. As I told you last time: "Baby" was returned to the orphanage and "Ubie" took its place. Ubie is a she, not an it: a banjo-ukulele. And she has a very loud voice. Most of the time it's raised in protest at what I'm doing to her. Causing her to groan and moan instead of singing on key. I got brave, or stupid, and decid- ed to join the Ukulele Circle that practices weekly at Gold Star. Oh- hh, what a mistake. I came home demoralized, discouraged and despondent ('nuff with the D's). Those gals, and one guy, are so far beyond me, I shouldn't be allowed to carry their picks. It's not them; it's me. They can actually play!! And it sounds like music! Now just imagine what I'd sound like with a fi ddle. Saw-saw-scritch- scratch- eek-eeek. Never fear, I have no intention of trying a fi ddle, (come to think of it, I had no inten- tions of trying a Ukulele either.) Why do I do these things? Why don't I just rock, knit or read sa- gas? H'mm, one reason might be: I don't have a rocking chair! And I can't knit -now don't suggest I join a knitting circle! Meanwhile, I've had that horrible miserable, wretched fl u/virus/ cough stuff that's going around. Wonder if I caught it from Ubie? She's always sounded sick. On the other hand, maybe I gave it to her. Can you imagine a Ukulele with a barking cough? Maybe that's why she sounds so dispirited and dis- gruntled. Have you read any good sagas lately?
