Not a licensed contractor Heart Strings Tugged After A Tragedy, But Beware of Clickbait The memorial of the tragic passing of Kobe Bryant, retired NBA player and famous celebrity is likely to gen- erate scams exploiting the eagerness generated by fans for information and memorabilia. Better Business Bureau warns consumers to be on the lookout for scams mentioning the former NBA basketball player, his daughter, Gianna Bryant, and seven others who perished in a recent tragic helicopter crash, and not to let mourning impact your judgement. BBB Tips to Avoid Clickbait: Be aware of spear phishing emails with a catchy headline. The sender claims to be from a reputable news organization capitalizing on trend- ing news with an exclusive video, image or document they want to share with you. There is typically a link that will lead the user to a mali- cious website if they click on it. • Look at the sender's email ad- dress before clicking on anything in the email. If it's someone you're not familiar with, delete it. • Don't click links in any email un- less you are positive they go to a reputable address. Hover over the link to see its true destination. BBB recommends that if you or someone that you know is a victim of a scam report it to BBB Scam Tracker. For more information on scams, visit, BBB Scam Tips or con- tact your local Lake Havasu City BBB Regional Director, Kryistyna Hook, at 928.302.3701 or kryistyna. hook@bbbcommunity.org By Jackie Deal He's age 97 and still drives, still runs, still dances. He moves quietly, smiling through the QIA (Quartzsite Improvement Assoc.) crowds. There's no swagger, no strutting, just smiles and Hellos. But if any- one deserved to strut, it would be Norborn Felton. He doesn't brag, I had to drag his credentials out of him. He has a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, a Bache- lor's degree in Chemistry, a Master's in Physical Science and a Doctorate from Cornell University in Physical Science. (Whew!) He admits to hav- ing been a Type A personality, but says he changed to a Type B "when all the Type A were dying off." He's a descendant of a Purser in The British Navy who emigrated to Canada when the English were try- ing to populate it before the Ameri- cans could do so. His father migrat- ed to Bellingham, Washington and then spent winters in Quartzsite searching for gold and selling rocks and minerals. Our Norby was born in Portland, Oregon and grew up loving to hike in the forests. He enjoyed the Boy Scouts, hiking and mountain climb- ing. He joined the Navy and went to Offi cers training at Cornell Uni- versity where he qualifi ed as a Naval Offi cer. He received his commission and was eventually assigned to a ship that was headed to go through the Panama Canal when the atomic bombs were dropped. They were sent back and the ship was decom- missioned. He then taught at the Naval Reserve School in San Jose. He discovered that "Naval offi cers were pretty stupid"; they knew noth- ing about the ships and the ocean so he taught "oceanography." In all, he was in the Navy for 14 years; 4 years active duty and 10 years teaching. His fi rst wife, the mother of his three children, didn't like hiking or the outdoors. After they divorced he continued to be involved in the raising of his children. He talks lov- ingly and nostalgically about giving his grandchildren "experiences" in the world around them. All three of his granddaughters are now pursu- ing Doctoral degrees. His second wife was teaching Peace Corp volunteers training to go to the Philippines. She obtained her Doctor's degree from San Jose State University, After their mar- riage, they loved to hike and visited Quartzsite during vacations from teaching. Norby eventually bought acreage in Ora Acres near the Town Park and he also bought and devel- oped the B10 Campground which he still owns. He thoroughly enjoys his win- ters in Quartzsite but says his kids no longer let him drive to his home in Campbell, California. Norby has been awarded a Lifetime Member- ship in the QIA and you'll see him at most all QIA events.
