Categories for the $25,000 prize are: Fresh beef and fresh California avocado that highlight California cuisine and cooking trends. The Friends of the Corning Library have some shelves of books for sale at all times. The group will have its semi-annual book sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 13. Books, available in fiction and non-fiction, will be priced: Hardcover 50 cents, paper backs 25 cents and childrens books 10 cents. A large selection of older books was donated that might be of interest to a collector or anyone who wants to read a book from the 1940s-1960s. All books will be sold for $1 per paper bag full during the last hour of the sale. The Friends of the Library would like to thank all who come support the library by purchasing books. Beef & Asparagus Pasta Toss was a prize winner in the 1999 National Beef Cook-Off. 1 pound ground chuck 3 cups uncooked bow tie pasta 1 pound fresh asparagus, cut into 1-inch pieces 3 tablespoons olive oil 1/4 cup minced shallots (about 2 large) 2 or 3 cloves garlic, minced Salt and pepper 1. Cook pasta in boiling salted water 10 minutes or until almost tender. COMMUNITY CLIPS At the recent Sacramento River Discovery Center���s Thursday Evening Program, Brin Greer, of Tehama County/Red Bluff Landfill Management Agency, shared how to REAP the benefits of reuse by taking new or partially consumed products to the Tehama County Landfill���s Hazardous Products Waste Collection Events and dispose of them. This unique Tehama County program received a national award in 2012. The types of products that are being reused are quite varied from aerosol cans of spray starch or oven cleaner to containers of paints, stains and automotive fluids. All the products being reused are considered to be Hazardous Waste and need special handling. Before they are redistributed to the public, free of charge, they are examined to be sure that they are fit for reuse. The agency is offering free Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Events on April 20 at the Tehama County/Red Bluff Landfill on Plymire Road, and April 27 at the Corning Disposal and Recycling Facility on Highway 99 West. These events are open to residents of Tehama County from 8 am to noon.
