Georgia Alpha Chapter of Pi Beta Phi University of Georgia P.O. Box 442100 Lawrence, KS 66044-2100 Address Service Requested A New Vision Built on Great Tradition e Campaign for Georgia Alpha O n November 13, a fifth annual celebration in memory of our extraordinary sister, Karen Cousins '76, was held at the home of her younger biological sister and, as of October 2016, new sorority sister, Marcia Cousins Shurley '16. Karen, aka Cuz/KK/Cousins, passed away in August 2015 at the age of 59. To honor her incredible older sister, Marcia has promised to host an annual event during her birthday month, celebrating Karen's precious life and that of her unending love for Georgia Alpha! "Our laughs are limitless, our memories are countless, our sisterhood is endless" Through this special event, friendships are cultivated, memories surface in extraordinary ways and abundant laughter filters from room to room. Karen brought her own unique blend of wit, loyalty, energy and love to her sisters at the Georgia Alpha Chapter while at the University of Georgia, and now, even after her untimely passing, she brings sisters together! Through her commitment to Pi Beta Phi decades ago, she found a family of beautiful, intelligent and fun-loving women who instantly became an important part of her life. "For while there are deeper and holier relations than that of … Pi Beta Phi, still nothing purer or lovelier graces the name of friendship." More than 20 ladies gathered for festive food, faithful friendship and fun through fellowship at Marcia's home in Dunwoody. Distance in years and travel have not prevented dozens of sisters from traveling to Atlanta for this special evening over the last four years — some from as far away as California! Sisterhood is such an important gift; to have found it young is one of the greatest gifts, but for Marcia to have found it as a middle-aged mother and an alumna initiate, long after the experiences found on college campuses are over, is a bountiful gift that will be treasured forever. The 2020 JOYFUL KK Celebration will be moving to Saint Simons Island after Marcia leaves her home in the Atlanta area after 40 years for warmer waters, sandy beaches and new adventures! An Angel in Our HeArts Memory of Karen Cousins '76 Lives on Through Annual Sisterhood Gathering Georgia Alpha sisters celebrate the life of Karen Cousins '76 during the fifth annual JOYFUL KK Celebration.
