THIRD PLACE / LARGE TRADITIONAL BATH
A once dark, low ceiling bathroom was
transformed into a warm, luxurious and well-
lit space. The final objective was to create a
bathroom that merged both modern and
traditional styles.
The lack of any natural light entering the
bathroom presented a big challenge. The
best way to simulate sunlight with the existing
architecture of the space was to create deep
light coves in the shower using warm LED
strip lighting. The client requested to keep
the design neutral - not too feminine and not
too masculine. Therefore, the design color
palette and fixture choices were crucial. A
neutral, off-white porcelain tile for the main
floor and walls created a canvas to explore
finishes. The result was a well-balanced light
and dark palette. Introducing a free-standing
traditional foot bathtub, as well as white
ceramic accent fittings, added the right
amount of feminine touch to the bathroom.
The custom vanity's gray lacquered finish
along with the dark taupe custom millwork
wall planks, provided the masculine
elements. Marrying these components
created the perfect balance for the client.
