The objective of this design was to create a luxurious
contemporary powder room that creates a dramatic
and lasting impact when entertaining guests.
Some of the challenges of this project included
finding complimentary materials to contrast one
another while still highlighting their dramatic impact;
incorporating a wall mount toilet and faucet;
incorporating lighting accents that keep within the
dramatic design scheme; and keeping all plumbing
fixtures black.
Design solutions included: sourcing a custom stain
for the black walnut wood paneling and selecting a
complimentary marble; creating an accent above
toilet to take advantage of extra area built out for wall
mounted toilet, and a niche accented by Nero
Marquina marble and a dramatic light feature.
This powder room was designed as part of the complete
structural makeover of a two-story penthouse for a client seeking
a space with a "wow" factor to entertain family and guests. Given
the small, secluded nature of the space, a primary objective was
to maximize depth and create a light, open feel without
compromising elegance and detail. A combination of materials
were chosen to lend richness and texture to the space, assisting
in defining proportions and ratios, with an emphasis on clean,
compelling lines to complement the client's design objectives
while embodying a warmer, "Eclectic/Contemporary" feel.
Textured walls and a ceiling-height mirror inset in a custom-
designed, rich wooden vanity unit employ a dramatic edge,
while the simple, sculptural sink basin, ceiling-mounted faucet,
and compact, wall-mounted toilet lend the space a sleek,
contemporary tone.
