Who is that guy and where did he come from? McKenzie, a 21-year-old college senior and Red Bluff High School graduate, will travel to Dallas this weekend on an invitation to participate in the NFL Super Regional Combine. He'll be one of 218 prospects hoping to impress league scouts and eventually find himself in a uniform for a professional football team. The combine, which takes place Sunday and Monday, will be televised on NFL Network and livestreamed at NFL.com. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound wide receiver will work out on Monday at 7 or 9 a.m. local time. He caught his big shot after notching a 40-inch vertical leap, a 10-foot-4-inch broad jump and a 4.41-second 40-yard dash at a NFL Regional Combine in Seattle on March 23. "I remember after I ran the 40 ... a guy came up to me afterward and said, 'Man, you were flying,'" McKenzie said. McKenzie, however, had to wait until he was back at his hotel to learn his time. Daily News photo by Andre Byik Southern Oregon University senior Cole McKenzie, center, of Red Bluff, pauses with Troy Lalaguna, left, and Conner McKenzie at Tehama Family Fitness Center on Friday. Lalaguna is general manager for the center. "It was a pretty amazing feeling. It was almost somewhat emotional," he said. "Just the fact that I ran that and all my hard work did pay off." For a wide receiver, a fast 40-yard dash time is coveted. McKenzie's time shows he could play as a possession and big-play wide receiver. That isn't news to McKenzie. At Southern Oregon last season he finished the year with 98 receptions for 1,661 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns. McKenzie's yardage total broke a 47-year-old single-season school record by nearly 500 yards and his 18 touchdowns surpassed a CSNB Warriors 5 p.m. Memphis CSNC Kings 3 p.m. Zito throws another gem against Cards NHL Dallas NHL Sharks 1 p.m. MLB St. Louis CSNB Giants 1:05 p.m. STL — Wainwright, 1-2 SF — Cain, 2-1 AP file photo Athletics CSNC Houston 11:10 a.m. OAK — Anderson, 2-2 HOU — Norris, 1-2 Monday's games MLB Tiger Woods putts on the 18th hole during a practice round for the Masters golf tournament in Augusta, Ga in 2011. Nicklaus came away so impressed that he considered his six Masters and the four won by Palmer and said, ''This kid should win more than that.'' But the major Woods was supposed to dominate has become the major he can't seem to win anymore. ''It's been one of those things where I've been close there so many times on that back nine on Sunday, and I just haven't won,'' Woods said. ''I've been in the mix. Been on the periphery and played myself into the mix. I've been right there with just a few holes to go, and it just hasn't happened. Hopefully, this year it will be a different story.'' When he heard his name, he popped out for a quick look. Then, back to his routine. Zito spent all winter relishing in the World Series win — and now, he's starting anew. ''I'm grateful,'' he said. ''It was such a blessing. We're not taking anything for granted.'' Zito saved San Francisco's season by beating the Cardinals last fall in the NL championship series, then delivered again with a 1-0 victory over St. Louis on Friday as the Giants celebrated their latest World Series title throughout the home opener. Zito outdueled Jake Westbrook in his season debut. The lefty also had a key sacrifice bunt that led to San Francisco's run in the fourth, when Angel Pagan drew a bases-loaded walk. ''It was great for us to come out and match right up with the Cardinals again,'' Zito said. ''It felt good to start with one of the best in the league.'' The Giants won their 15th straight game with Zito on the mound, including the postseason. He hasn't lost since Aug. 2 against the New York Mets. Facing constant criticism yet again for his girth, World Series MVP Pablo Sandoval made several nice stops at third base and ran down a foul popup to back Zito. ''The difference-maker was the defense,'' Zito said. ''Pablo picked me up huge on a handful of plays.'' Zito blanked the Cardinals on three hits through the seventh. San Francisco's starters have gone 26 innings without allowing an earned run so far. ''Unbelievable,'' manager Bruce Bochy said. ''We know that's amazing and we can't expect that.''
