Elks honor elementary school students Courtesy photo Three very deserving Mercy High School students were recently nominated as the Rotary Club Mercy Student of the Quarter. Hailey Gao, Mahalee Gaumer and Jessica Curl attended the Rotary Club meeting in Red Bluff, gave a speech and were interviewed to determine the one student to be selected from Mercy High. Students make honor roll at Oregon State University Names of students who have made the Scholastic Honor Roll Winter term have been announced by Oregon State University. Among the students honored are Straight-A Average: Emily L. Nicholson, Senior, Zoology and 3.5 or Better: Mary Beth E. Nicholson, Junior, Pre-Civil Engineering, both from Cottonwood, and 3.5 or Better: Shelby M. Foley, Junior, Environmental Engineering, from Red Bluff. A total of 837 students earned straight-A (4.0). Another 3,562 earned a B-plus (3.5) or better to make the listing. To be on the Honor Roll, students must carry at least 12 graded hours of course work. A pen and pencil set is also presented to each student. Along with the usual monthly recognition, as a special treat Red Bluff High School student Kellie Rodriquez sang a song that she wrote titled Rainbow. Students added their hand prints on the trees and wrote their initials and the year that they will graduate from college . Shasta College presents Cinco De Mayo celebration Shasta College announces the 22nd Annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration that will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, in the Shasta College Student Center Quad. Activities include dances by Ballet Folklorico Azatlan and by the Anderson Teen Center Ballet Folklorico; a keynote presentation by Shasta College instructor and scholar in Latin American History, Chris Rodriguez; a baleros competition; performances from the Shasta College PUENTE students; a tamale lunch; sing-alongs; piñata breaking for children; Zumba dance lessons; Shasta College and community booths and more.
