Page 3 TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY ZETA SIGMA STAYS TRUE TO DELT VALUES Chapter Welcomes 34 New Brothers and Raises $3,600 for DTD National Philanthropy T he gentlemen of Delta Tau Delta Zeta Sigma had a busy semester in College Station. After being away for the summer, the fall semester kicked off with a successful recruitment week and football tailgates. We also made further improvements in our community outreach, university involvement, and philanthropic efforts. At Zeta Sigma we are excelling and pushing ourselves forward, trying to better the chapter every year while still experiencing all the great opportunities college offers. Academic Achievement This year, we've kept our pace and pushed our academic merit even further. We sit atop Texas A&M academic rankings with a chapter GPA of 3.208. We will maintain academic excellence by implementing study hours with brothers and keeping each other accountable for our academic responsibilities. In the 2018 spring semester, Jack Kelly '20 and Trevor McIntire '21 competed in Texas A&M's student research week, which is the largest undergraduate research symposium in the country, where they placed first in the health and sciences category with their research on the kidney. Philanthropic Endeavors The chapter has stayed connected to the community through philanthropy thanks to Caden Wright '21 and Corey Fish '20 providing consistent ways to give back. We still work with Be the Match, which provides individuals with the opportunity to register as a potential blood stem cell donor. This semester, more than 55 people joined us on campus to sign up for the registry. Through profit shares at local restaurants, we raised $3,600 for our national philanthropy, JDRF, which we're proud to support in the effort to continue research to end Type 1 diabetes. We also hosted Best Buddies, which creates opportunities for one-on-one friendships and support with those who have physical or mental disabilities. Members of Zeta Tau Alpha joined us to spend time and enjoy a meal with our new buddies at the Shelter. Quality Brotherhood Recruiting is something we tend to do well, and this year has been no different. Aaron O'Reilly '21 and Cody Sicola '21, in the spring and fall, respectively, brought in high-quality men to join our chapter. This fall class added 34 members to our chapter, and we're excited to see the Delts they become at the end of their respective college careers. Connected to Campus Our chapter was busy with extracurricular and social activities this year. We had mixers with the women of Delta Gamma, Alpha Chi Omega, and Zeta Tau Alpha, as well as other great organizations on campus. In February, our executive board attended the Western Plains Division Conference in Kansas City. Much was taken back, not only from what we learned there, but also from being in the community and having conversations with other Delts from our region. Bonding with Fellow Delts and Parents On October 26, it was a pleasure for the members to host alumni at the Shelter following a Texas A&M football win. It was a blast for the active members, and we give a big thank- you to those who joined in the fun. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did, and we hope to build on more events like this in the future. Delt parent's weekend was only two weeks later, which included the Aggie ring dunk in celebration of all our members who received their ring this semester. The dunk was ultra- competitive, but the top champions of the chug were Reed Homen '20 and Brandon Acuff '20. To round off the weekend, we invited the parents for an evening out to enjoy time with their sons and to meet other fraternity members. Fun and Success on the Field Intramurals have been in the hands of Jamie Patterson '21 this year. Delts have been competing in intramural soccer, football, and baseball games against other fraternities on campus. Our long-time success in soccer is projected to continue next spring as the "footy boys" closed a strong season this fall. Looking Ahead It has been a joy serving as president of this chapter during the 2019 calendar year. We have many accomplishments to celebrate, but I'm more excited to see how the incoming executive board members can further Zeta Sigma's achievements. I fully believe in the character of man that is produced by being a Zeta Sigma Delt, and I have no doubt our newest brothers will carry on this legacy. We will keep making necessary changes to our programming, operations, and activities in ways that abide by our Delt foundations. Thank you for your support, and I encourage you to reach out with any questions or comments. Fraternally, Austin Greaves '20 Chapter President austingreaves15@gmail.com / (713) 965-3506 Ben Hoffman '21 and Corey Fish '20 volunteer for Be The Match. Hayden Chalmers '21, Austin Greaves '20, Josh McKerall '20, Christopher Todd '21, Caden Wright '21, and Zach Goff '20 receive a chapter award on behalf of Zeta Sigma at the Western Plains Division Conference in Kansas City. Dylan Long '21, Cody Sicola '21, Jake Pfaff '21, Chris Coyne '21, Mike Coyne '93, Harrison Schlager '20, Anthony Vish '21, Luke Mckee '20, and Dalton Carson '21 enjoy each other's company during parent's weekend.
