r e d f c u.o r g | 7 Excitement is ramping up for the new Alabama School of Cyber Technology and Engineering (ASCTE), a state magnet school that will respond to the increasing global cyber threat. "is will be the first of its kind," said PeggyLee Wright, development lead for ASCTE. "e boarding school is for students in grades 10-12. An interim housing facility will be provided by Oakwood University, with collaboration from our two- and four-year universities throughout the state." State legislation ensures that a significant number of students from 138 largely rural school districts from across Alabama will have a fair, equal and significant opportunity to attend the cyber technology school at no cost. "e school will also be available to qualified dependent military and civil servant children," Wright said. "Its curriculum is designed so that graduates are able to join the cyber and engineering workforce immediately while continuing their education at universities," Wright said. "ASCTE will deliver highly proficient cyber and engineering professionals who will design capabilities and systems that advance, promote, protect and defend the U.S. in these fields." Redstone Federal Credit Union's $3 million pledge in June 2019 kicked off a funding drive to help the school reach its $30 million funding goal. Redstone's donation will be paid out over 10 years. As of November 2019, the Alabama School of Cyber Technology and Engineering Foundation has raised $5.75 million, while several other large companies are finalizing their donation packages. e school will be built in Cummings Research Park on land purchased by the City of Huntsville and donated to the project. e State of Alabama has allocated money for the school from its education budget.
