THETA THETA CHAPTER OF SIGMA CHI FRATERNITY | UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN | FALL 2019 MAKE A POSITIVE IMPACT ON OUR UNDERGRADUATES Theta Theta Looking for Alumni Volunteers A big key to the solid standing of our Chapter on campus has been the generous financial contributions of our alumni. Our successful restoration and renovation of the physical structure would not have been possible without your support. We are proud to provide a safe and desirable living environment for our undergraduate brothers and a wonderful meeting location for many of us as we return to Ann Arbor for a visit or a football game. We continue to need your support to help cover House Corporation expenses like this newsletter. The next step in supporting Theta Theta is a request for your time. We have made this appeal in the past and this time we are adding a new opportunity for you to help us out. If you are not available we still need your help encouraging brothers you know, especially those who are in range of Ann Arbor, to take on a roll with the House Corporation or the Advisory Board. We are looking for help with a variety of functions alumni take on to help our Chapter be successful. Over the years many of your brothers have committed their time helping manage our house. With apologies to the names I am missing, a partial list of House Corporation leadership and Chapter Advisors includes: the legendary Harry Hallock '40 starting our House Corporation, to Rick Siedlaczek '78, John Cackowski '77, and Terry McInerney '83 in the early '80s, Jack Edman '50 and Wally Grant '49 in the late '80s and early '90s, on to Don Lindow '70, Jeff Palisin '86, and Dick Swaney '69 in the '90s, to the 2000s and House Corporation and recolonization contributions from Tom ZurSchmiede '48, Don Fergle, Central Michigan '80, Jerry Kocis '94, Mike Stearns '81, and an all-star crew from Kettering including Matt Seuberling '07, Jeff Kevwitch '07, Jordan Sahs '07, and Chris Brooks, Idaho '06 on to Chapter Advisors in the 2000s dominated by help from Kettering graduates Brad Brumm '03, Steve Pagalos, Sam McClure, and Cam Germain. The bulk of our current House Corporation including Dave Train '84, Rick Miller, Emory '82, Todd Halsted '84, Tom Roth '83, and myself have been on the board for more than 30 years. It is a rewarding role and working directly with the undergraduate chapter provides us with the opportunity to see the quality of brothers joining our ranks and validation of the positive experience of becoming a Sigma Chi. We are looking for more brothers who can offer a time commitment. Some jobs are just for a day or event. Twice a year for initiation we need alumni involvement during the Saturday rituals and ceremony. In the past we have put together events like career night for the Chapter, golf outings, BBQs, class reunions, Homecoming, etc. During the academic year, Chapter officers would benefit from a designated alumnus (even from a distance) to provide input on leadership and managing roles like Quaestor, Magister, and House Manager. Some are more of a regular commitment like Chapter Advisor or Assistance Chapter Advisor or joining House Corporation where being within driving distance to Ann Arbor is important. If you can help out Theta Theta with your time we'll come up with a plan that benefits both our undergraduate and alumni brothers. Please contact me so we can discuss further. In hoc, Dan Page '87 (248) 568-6340 dpage345@gmail.com Theta Theta Earns Peterson Award and University Recognition Congratulations to our undergraduate Chapter for earning the 2019 J. Dwight Peterson Significant Chapter Award. The Peterson Award recognizes chapters that achieve excellence in all operations, including academics, philanthropy, recruitment, and Ritual performance. Our chapter was also recognized by U of M's Office of Greek Life for having the highest grade point among fraternities on campus. Keep up the great work!
