PAGE 3 Endeavors W e are proud to share that Gamma Tau received the David L. Westol Sacred Purpose Award for the 2018-19 academic year. The award was presented during the first session of the Initiative Academy. It recognizes a Theta Chi chapter that excels at health and safety education for its members. Gamma Tau Chapter fully embraced the Sacred Purpose movement into daily chapter operations and led the way for health and safety programming on campus. Brothers educated themselves on the importance of mental health awareness for college students and hosted a tabling campaign on campus to foster suicide prevention. They also embraced the importance of substance abuse education by partnering with Drake to raise awareness on the warning signs and dangers of incapacitation from alcohol. It is the responsibility of the vice president of health and safety to plan these events and the brothers to be motivated to attend. Congratulations to Brady Sorensen '20, the current VPHS who was responsible for programming during spring 2019, and Jake Stockdale '19, who was VPHS during fall 2018. Thank you for your dedication to Gamma Tau and your brothers' health and safety. Brothers Set Sights High for Fall Semester Chapter Aims to Break Fundraising Record Once Again T he fall semester has gotten off to a quick start for our brothers. With four members serving on Student Senate, three on Drake's Interfraternity Council, and many more involved in sports clubs and other organizations, there's been little time for rest. Recruitment was a great success, as 20 young men accepted bids to join our chapter. All are passionate and excited to learn more about our values and getting to know them has been an amazing experience. GAMMA TAU POOL PARTY As a reward for again breaking our fundraising record for the James Arthur Albert Foundation, one of the Foundation members hosted the entire Gamma Tau Chapter at his home. Alumni Davis Heck '19 and Johnny Felsenthal '19 spoke to the chapter about their experiences working in Belize this summer, where they were able to see the direct impact of the fund; the active brothers are now motivated more than ever to break the record once again. BID DAY Bid Day was a great celebration to cap off a successful recruitment week. Aside from giving some stylish new t-shirts, designed by Hunter Edling '20, to the new members, actives were able to get to know the new brothers as they played yard games and ate pizza. NEW CHAPTER ADVISOR During recruitment, Jim Albert spoke to potential new members about the James Arthur Albert Foundation and the amazing work that the chapter has done with the organization. Jim has also officially accepted a position as the new Gamma Tau chapter advisor. We are very excited for the chapter's future with Jim. While a new official house director hasn't been found, Sandi Moran remains in the position in the interim. She has been an amazing resource to the brothers of Gamma Tau Chapter for several years, and while we're sad to no longer see her around the house every day, we're all excited for her future and new married life. Fraternally, Brennen Ohlemann '20 President brennen.ohlemann@drake.edu Brothers Brennen Ohlemann '20 and Bryan Schlotterbeck '23 get to know our new chapter advisor, Jim Albert. Another successful auction in support of the schoolchildren of Belize! Thank you to the James Arthur Albert Foundation for letting us be a part of this amazing cause. Jack Haben '20, Connor Wrigley '23, and Landon Norkus '23 enjoy yard games on Bid Day.
