Triston Foss '17-1925 High Alpha - Chapter President Oregon City, OR Political Science After being invited to one of Alpha Lambda's summer recruitment events by a high school friend, Triston wasn't sure what to expect. He had the typical "frat guy" stereotype in mind but was pleasantly surprised when he met with active members. He found a large group of diverse guys who were genuinely interested in him as a person. In joining Alpha Lambda, Triston felt like he found a place where he truly fits in. "During my time as a brother of Lambda Chi, I have found my home away from home and made many lifelong friends. I learned the core values of the brotherhood and discovered what I am capable of accomplishing. Alpha Lambda has taught me how to be a better leader, strive for better, and push for change." Triston is a member of the campus mock trial team, which travels around the country competing against other universities. He's also held various officer positions at Alpha Lambda and now serves as High Alpha. With Triston in office, the chapter won the Grand High Alpha award, the Bruce McIntosh award, and several others. After graduating, he hopes to have a career in lobbying and eventually run for public office. Joe Castellanos '18-1985 Danville, CA Geography As an incoming freshman, Joe had no intentions of joining a fraternity, but his mind changed when he saw how interested his dormmates were in Greek life. He was so impressed with Alpha Lambda that he knew they would be the only brotherhood worth joining. "I have gained so much from others around me and grown as an individual. It's given me a core group that I can rely on in any situation and I have really grown into a more social and adventurous person." Joe interned for the city of Concord, California, working in the community development and economics department. He gained experience in city planning but is unsure of the path he will take after graduation as he seeks more experience. Joe is a member of the Corvallis ski club and Oregon State geography club. He received the Theta Kappa Nu scholarship and remains involved in philanthropies and group outings. Jack Tyler '19-2020 Bend, OR Environmental Science Jack didn't realize how much ΛΧΑ would impact his personal development. "The diversity of personalities and backgrounds in the chapter has nurtured my newfound open-mindedness along with numerous friendships. I have also learned proper time management with a strong balance between academics and fraternity activities." Within the chapter, Jack is the big brother coordinator, helping younger members find their identity in the fraternity and on campus. He is also a member of the environmental science club and participates in philanthropy events, recruitment events, and various weekly service projects offered through Oregon State. "One memory that sticks out was participating in the All-University Sing competition. I had a crippling fear of anything involving speaking or performing in front of an audience, so when I was asked to join Sing two weeks before the performance, I reluctantly agreed. Little did I know that a seven-minute song and dance routine in front of 3,000 people would be so exciting. This event turned my fear into excitement and was a transformative experience." Jack's ideal post-graduation plan involves taking a couple years off to travel the world and gain perspective on environmental issues. After that, he would like to go to law school in hopes of a career in solving international water disputes. Jordan Weijland '18-2002 Oregon City, OR Industrial Engineering, Minor in Psychology "I've gained so much from my time in the chapter and met many lifelong friends. Most importantly, the chapter has helped me grow as a man, as I've learned time management, dealing with interpersonal conflicts, holding responsibility, how to be a leader, and so much more." Jordan has been involved on the executive committee as well as Assistant Vice President. He has gained experience with almost every committee in the chapter. Additionally, Jordan regularly donates his time to both Lambda Chi and sorority philanthropy events. "My fondest memory comes from Anchor Splash during freshman year. We had all just joined ΛΧΑ together and participated in the ΔΓ Anchor Splash main event - swimming! It was a great bonding experience, bringing our class together. To make it even better, we won!" After graduating, Jordan plans to enter the psychological engineering field to work in areas of education or mental health. He wants to help people through his job and build on the values that Lambda Chi instilled in him. Jordan is also entertaining the possibility of going abroad to pursue his master's degree. Graham Pearce '19-2028 West Linn, OR Business Administration "I have learned what it's like to be part of a community where everyone relies on each other and works hard to improve those around them. I've learned how to look out for my brothers by holding them accountable for their responsibilities. Alpha Lambda Leads True Brotherhood, Personal Growth, and Leadership Development T he creed of Lambda Chi Alpha reminds us that we are in a continual state of personal growth. Further, that we have dedicated ourselves to serving others. For more than a decade as Hi Pi, David Leathers '82 (Iota Gamma 666) has dedicated himself to ensuring that our brotherhood lives out our creed on Oregon State's campus. Investing his passion and countless hours, he has reignited Alpha Lambda's leadership on campus and nationally. But most importantly is that the chapter provides a premier brotherhood experience for members. The following profiles of five undergraduate brothers give a glimpse of the bright present and future of ΛΧΑ at OSU and the positive impact Alpha Lambda makes in the lives of young men.
