Is it in trouble? — Dan War- ren, via e-mail A : To the contrary, ABC has given the Cobie Smulders show a big vote of confidence by ordering a full season's worth of episodes. In a fall that has seen some new shows consigned to play out its exist- ing episodes with no more on tap, or pulled from a broadcast network and moved to a digital platform, that has to come as good news to Smulders (who's a producer as well as the star of "Stumptown") and company. Something surely working in that drama's favor is ABC Entertainment chief Karey Burke's stated desire to bring more female viewers back to the network, while not ex- cluding male viewers from the relevant content. "Stumptown" clearly fills that bill. Q : I've heard the Kenne- dy Center Honors are earlier than usual this year. When will they be on TV? — Grace Collins, Columbus, Ohio A : The actual event will be staged in Washington, D.C., at the usual time — during the first full weekend of December, when there are accompanying events such as dinners and parties that go along with the ceremony itself. However, the CBS telecast will be earlier ... on Sunday, Dec. 15, rather than in its tra- ditional slot during the week between Christmas and New Year's Day. That gives the producers only one week to get the special ready to air, but there isn't a lot of tricky editing in- volved, since the show gen- erally unfolds on television just as it does for the live audience in attendance. The 2019 honorees are music's Earth, Wind & Fire, two-time Oscar winner and three-time Emmy winner Sally Field, singer Linda Ronstadt, the 50th-anniversary-marking series "Sesame Street" and conductor Michael Tilson Thomas.
