Martin says that the flaming figgy pudding provides some great theatrics at the end of the evening, as it has become part of the tradition to let the lights in the room go dim while the choir sings "Silent Night." at's also when the figgy pudding is lit in front of the guests. "A lot of people come to our feaste to start their holiday season," Martin said. "People will come up to me and say that this has become part of their tradition … Part of my job at Methodist is to start traditions, not only for the choir, but for the community that is following our choir. My hope is that anything that I start is worthy enough to continue aer I leave." Last year was Kim Hasty's first time attending the dinner. She said the event was not at all what she had been expecting and it le her pleasantly surprised. "It is very elaborate, the costumes are beautiful, and the food is delicious," said Hasty, who is the director of university relations at Methodist. "And what surprised me is that it is so funny. ere is a lot of humor involved. ey are all so talented, not just as singers but as actors. We enjoyed it. A lot of people think of that era as somber but this was just a joy." Tickets for the event are $45 per person. Deadline for registration is November 25.
