2 Lambda Lamp S erving as Alpha-Delta Zeta treasurer in 1957, chapter president in 1958, and being named the Interfraternity Council Fraternity Man of the Year in 1959, Gerald "Gerry" Stevenson AΔ 487 is no stranger to leadership. At Missouri Science & Technology's Homecoming this fall, Gerry received the Alumni Merit Award from the Miner Alumni Association for his dedication to the university over the past 60 years. After obtaining his bachelor's, master's, and honorary doctorate degrees in chemical engineering from Missouri S&T, Gerry's enjoyed a long career in engineering. During his career, Gerry held the roles of vice president and senior vice president for various chemical engineering companies, eventually retiring as senior vice president and executive board member of Jacobs Engineering Group in 2000. Since then, he's worked as president and CEO of Summit Prairie Corp., a management and venture capital company. In 1981, Gerry received an Award of Professional Distinction in chemical engineering honoring his life's work. Gerry is also a past president and permanent member of the board of directors for the Miner Alumni Association, as well as a founding member of the Academy of Chemical Engineers, an MS&T trustee emeritus, and a member of the dean's advisory board for the College of Engineering and Computing. The success Gerry's achieved over the years stems in part from his ΛXA membership. He proudly credits Alpha- Delta Zeta for the hand it played in shaping him into the person he is today. "Ninety percent of who I am today I learned in school and through the Fraternity," he shared. Lifelong friendships are only one of the benefits Gerry received from Alpha-Delta Zeta. He still has a house two doors down from one of his Fraternity brothers and lunches with brothers in St. Louis once a month. "It is said that a person is very lucky if he has five people who will do anything for him without questioning what it was about. For me, four of those five people are Fraternity brothers." Gerry enjoys golfing, fishing, and traveling with his wife of 56 years, Jeannie. They have two daughters and live in Florida, but they still make frequent visits to St. Louis to visit with one of their daughters, three grandchildren, and Gerry's Alpha-Delta Zeta brothers. Their other daughter and her two children live in Hong Kong. For their love of Missouri S&T, Gerry and Jeannie created a substantial endowment, the Gerald L. and Eugenia Bradford Stevenson Scholarship for incoming, out-of-state undergraduates majoring in chemical engineering.
