Lambda lamp AlphA-DeltA ZetA At Missouri university of science AnD technology | fAll 2019 I t's hard to believe fall is in full swing and the semester is nearly over for our undergraduate brothers. The changes announced in the spring edition of Lambda Lamp are beginning to take shape with the nomination of officers for our new alumni engagement organization, the Alpha-Delta Zeta Alumni Association. Once elections are complete, you'll be hearing from these brothers as we build a more robust alumni engagement program. Our goal is to connect brothers from different eras on a regular basis to share their Lambda Chi Alpha experiences. We are open to your ideas on how we can better engage our brotherhood. Be on the lookout for an announcement of our first alumni workday in Rolla, scheduled for January 2020, prior to the start of the spring semester. We took several years off from these workdays due to the Chapter House renovation, but it's time to reinstitute these semiannual opportunities where alumni and active brothers labor together to freshen up Alpha-Delta Zeta's home. The date and time of the alumni workday will be posted on our Facebook page and announced via email. Our next meeting will be at 9 a.m. on March 14, 2020, for St. Pat's 112th year on the MS&T campus—sure to be the best ever. If you know of any incoming male students who would make great Lambda Chi Alphas, send us their contact information and we will make sure to pass it on to the active brothers. If you have any questions or comments at any time, please reach out to us at lca.adz.alumni@ gmail.com. We love to hear from you. In Z.A.X., Rob Sutton AΔ 1158 President, Housing Corporation rwsutton1158@gmail.com Alumni Engagement Program Makes First Strides Join Your Brothers for Alumni Workday and St. Pat's 2020 L ast summer, two Alpha- Delta Zeta icons passed away: Leonard C. Kirberg AΔ 610 and Jerry R. Bayless AΔ 1065. Both Len and Jerry left their marks on Alpha-Delta Zeta through their focus to make Lambda Chi Alpha the best Fraternity possible. Len will be remembered by all who knew him as the driving force behind Alpha-Delta Zeta's new Chapter House, and Jerry will be remembered by many brothers from the 1990s as our academic advisor and his short term as High Pi. Len entered Chapter Eternal on June 19, 2019, at the age of 76. He was a civil engineer and innovative industry leader as a chairman, CEO, and president of Horner & Shifrin Inc. from 1988 to 2004. Len received his bachelor of science in civil engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla in 1966. He is remembered as a caring leader who made friends easily with his good sense of humor. Under Len's guidance, the Housing Corporation undertook their much-needed capital campaign for a new Chapter House at 1705 Pine St. Brothers shared his ambitious goal of completing the project before the Chapter's centennial celebration in November of 2017. His goal was met, as the capital campaign raised more than $2 million. Because of Len's vision, leadership, and perseverance, the men of Lambda Chi Alpha will enjoy one of the best homes on Missouri S&T's campus for years to come. Jerry entered Chapter Eternal on July 2, 2019, at the age of 81. He was a former associate dean of engineering at Missouri Science and Technology. While Jerry was known broadly across the Missouri S&T community as "Mr. S&T" because of his position as professor of civil engineering at the university from 1959 to 2017, he was simply known to the Alpha- Delta Zetas as Jerry or Brother Bayless. An excerpt from his Missouri S&T obituary best sums up the man we knew as a caring mentor. "As an educator, as an administrator, and as a community member, he lived each day with optimism, ready to help wherever he could, eager to encourage his family, friends, colleagues, and students… He was the voice of guidance to the overwhelmed student athlete, the mentor to the younger faculty member, the champion of the failing student who was willing to work for a second chance." Jerry was one of Lambda Chi Alpha's special members selected from the post- collegiate ranks as an honorary member of the Fraternity. While he hadn't been a member of Lambda Chi Alpha as an undergraduate, his Lambda Chi Alpha students identified him as a fitting candidate to be their academic advisor and as a man whose ideals made him an ideal honorary member. Through his years of academic advising at Alpha- Delta Zeta, Jerry mentored brothers of all academic standings. His support of students with academic challenges will forever be his legacy to his brothers. Leaving Legacies at Alpha-Delta Zeta Remembering Len Kirberg AΔ 610 and Jerry Bayless AΔ 1065 Leonard C.
