After one semester at U of M, he and his twin brother, Sam, joined the U.S. Navy and served as signalmen in the Pacific, including a stint in the Philippines. Bob married Florence Fae Taylor in December 1950 and spent the next seven years working the Taylor family farm near Scobey in Daniels County. In 1958, Bob and Fae bought a stake in the ranch where he grew up and spearheaded the family's transition from sheep ranching to cattle ranching. Bob was involved in bringing some of the first Simmental cattle to the United States in the 1960s. Through much of the 1980s, Bob served as a Fergus County commissioner. A leader in his family, church, community, and industry, Bob imparted wisdom to anyone who paid attention to his words and deeds. He stood up for what he thought was right, continually made productive use of his time, lived responsibly, and practiced quiet generosity. Voicing a final Easter dinner prayer just a month prior to his passing, Bob expressed gratitude for the things that mattered most to him: a savior, a good family, a good ranch, and a long, healthy life. Ted Cogswell Jr. '55 entered Chapter Eternal on April 16 in his hometown of Great Falls. He is survived by his wife, Ann; sons Ted III and Paul; and daughter Amy. Ted was a loyal brother and will be missed by many. Thomas James Flaherty '62 entered Chapter Eternal on September 4 after suffering a traumatic brain injury in early June. Tom received a degree in journalism from the University of Montana in 1962. He was an accomplished journalist with a focus on sports, most notably baseball, and was president of the Baseball Writers of America in 1982 and served as the masters of ceremony for the 1982 Baseball Hall of Fame induction of Henry Aaron and Frank Robinson. Tom also freelanced for the Sporting News and Baseball Digest among other publications. In 2000, Tom, along with co-author Jim Ksincski, published Jocks and Socks: Inside Stories from a Major-League Locker Room. Tom was a passionate guitar aficionado and played a number of styles, including those patterned after Chet Atkins, Joe Pass, and bluegrass flatpicking. He greatly enjoyed playing his guitar and singing with the music group at St. Agnes Church. David Carling Malouf '70 entered Chapter Eternal unexpectedly on March 11. Dave attended the University of Montana and studied secondary science, later earning his master's in elementary school administration. He married Michal Hall in 1970 and became an elementary school teacher with Missoula County Public Schools where he taught for 37 years. His favorite years were spent as the science and math teacher for the district's program for gifted and talented students at Jefferson School. Dave also served on the Lolo School Board and was a staunch advocate for teachers and public education. Outside of teaching, Dave was a gifted artist and turned his talents to sculpting in wax and having his pieces cast in bronze. The C.M. Russell Art Gallery in Great Falls recognized his talent and he was invited twice to have his pieces presented for the annual Russell Art Auction. After retirement, much of Dave's time was devoted to loving and nurturing his grandson, Sulli.
