Thanks to a scholarship for children of former UA football players established by the late and legendary Paul "Bear" Bryant, Amy received a full ride to UA. Her entire family attended UA and one thing's for sure—Bama is in Amy's blood. While UA was a given, her family's connections spanned beyond the school itself. Amy's Alpha Gamma Delta recruitment started with her aunt, Rebecca Freeman Owen '79, encouraging her to join Psi Chapter. But it was the diverse personalities of the women Amy met during recruitment that solidified her decision to join ΑΓΔ. As an undergraduate member of Psi Chapter, she was afforded leadership opportunities while serving as chapter President. "Alpha Gams are the best of the best," she said. "You're surrounding yourself with the top women from their hometowns." After graduating from UA with an undergraduate degree in business and healthcare administration, she earned a graduate degree in law like her father. She began her career as in-house council at the University of Alabama under the board of trustees. While Amy loved working at UA, she had three kids in four years and wanted a career that offered a better balance for her family. "I had many family connections in real estate," Amy stated. "I got my realtors license for Smith Lake Property, and then it grew locally." Switching to a career in real estate has also allowed Amy to stay better connected to Psi as recruitment advisor. "I am amazed by the students and I'm inspired to stay involved," she shared. Through her cumulative ΑΓΔ experience, Amy has learned how to live and work with others. "When you live and dine with the women and meet their families, you learn how to be open to everyone else and another way of life," she said. "It makes your family so much bigger. There are very few people in life who know your family, so it's a special connection." Another special ΑΓΔ connection for Amy formed when her daughter, Sara Frances Lawson '14, followed in her footsteps and joined Psi Chapter. Sara Frances graduated in 2018 and is recently engaged; she and her fiancé are planning to be wed in June 2020. Amy and her husband, Earl, a fellow alumnus and law school graduate of UA, met while she was a clerk in law school. The Crimson Tide remains a family tradition as they have two sons at UA. Sam is the Sigma Nu chapter president, and Spencer is the Sigma Nu recruitment chairman. In addition to Amy's successful career as a Birmingham-based realtor, she is the president of the Vestavia Hills Parks and Recreation Foundation and overseeing the building of Miracle Field* in the middle of June. Connect with Amy at amylaws@bellsouth.net to find out how to get involved in Psi Chapter. *The Miracle Field of Vestavia Hills is part of The Miracle League, which provides opportunities for children with disabilities to play Miracle League baseball, regardless of their abilities.
