3 SIGMA CHI O n the heels of a successful spring semester and summer break, Epsilon Kappa is poised to mold our members into men who leave an impact. We are focused on cultivating the culture of our Chapter to more effectively develop our brothers into transformational leaders for the benefit of their character, our University of Memphis campus, and the communities we interact with every day. CHAPTER HONORED FOR HARD WORK WELL DONE Our brothers completed the spring 2019 semester with a 3.17 GPA, placing above the campus and fraternity averages. In April, Cameron Webb '22 was recognized in the Greek community as the recipient of the Unsung Hero Award. The Chapter was also recognized by the university with the Pillar of Excellence Award in Values Integration. In August, six brothers attended the Krach Transformational Leaders Workshop, where the Chapter was recognized by the International Fraternity with a Peterson Significant Chapter Award. BROTHERS ACTIVE IN COMMUNITY Our Chapter has been diligent in maximizing opportunities to give back outside of the Chapter House. Many brothers enjoyed flag football with Special Olympics of Greater Memphis over the summer and into this semester. We have been utilizing some of the countless opportunities to serve in different parts of the city, such as picking up trash in Soulsville, participating in Up 'til Dawn benefiting St. Jude, or partnering with sorority philanthropies. Our brothers are also impacting our campus and student body, serving in student government as well as on the exec boards for Best Buddies, St. Jude Up 'til Dawn, and IFC. BUILDING LIFELONG FRIENDSHIPS It isn't all work without play; we enjoy many outlets to have a great time and invest in our brotherhood. Intramurals are always a favorite; our brothers played outdoor soccer and basketball this spring and are involved flag football and water polo this fall. Last semester we held a successful crawfish boil, hosted assorted mixers with sororities, and organized a spring formal. This football season we have enjoyed tailgating and attending Tigers games. FIXING OUR EYES FORWARD With the untiring and relentless support of our alumni, we are determined to boldly advance against adversity this semester, year, and beyond. We finished a successful recruitment, welcoming 27 new men into our ranks to learn what it means to be a Sigma Chi. The brothers were ecstatic for another successful Derby Days this October. I am continually humbled by the sacrifices made by alumni and undergraduates to leave Sigma Chi and Epsilon Kappa better then they found it. My heartfelt thank-you to everyone who has given so much of themselves and, in the process, convinced me that being a Sigma Chi is truly an honor and responsibility of lifelong duration.
