KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY I am proud to report our members have ushered in an excellent start to the 2019-20 school year. From academics to philanthropy, we have already made great headway toward our goals for the year. A Cut above the Rest On campus, Delta Chi is continuing the standard of excellence set by years past. International President Aaron Otto '98 presented us with our fifth President's Cup at our back-to-school bar- becue. The President's Cup is awarded to the top Delta Chi chapters in North America based upon overall superior chapter programming. Top Marks for Top Students In addition to this achievement, we have held the highest GPA since 1992 at 3.31 and rank above the all-fraternity and all-university averages. Our members are always striving for academic excellence as another way to uphold one of the core values of Delta Chi. Exemplifying the Delta Chi Standard Another way The Delta Chi Fraternity at K-State is upholding our values is through community engagement and service. About 80% of our membership is involved with other organi- zations outside of Delta Chi, with 20% holding leadership positions. We have set a goal of 100% outside involvement for the upcoming semester to continually broaden our horizons. Our philanthropic endeavors have seen equal success with a member average of 11 community service hours. Last semester, we also raised more than $5,000 for the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research and are striving to increase the amount this year. However, we recognize that each accomplishment and every award received is not only a testament to our undergraduate members, but also to the strong founda- tion our alumni brothers have laid before us. "I don't think you can stereotype KSU Delta Chi, and that stands out the most to me." What are your favorite memories from your time in Delta Chi? "The road trips to bowl games were hands down the best trips of my life." How do you stay in touch with your Delta Chi brothers? "Every way that I can. Some are in groups with me, some live nearby, some I text with, and some I travel with. I try to stay in touch with as many of them as I can. Some would surely say too much." W hen Cory Lafferty '02 came to K-State, he didn't want to move into a fraternity house right away. Since Delta Chi was in the process of acquiring a house at the time, he was able to take his time and get to know some of the Delta Chi brothers before joining the brotherhood. "I developed a connection with a couple guys in the house and decided to give it a shot since Delta Chi didn't seem like the typical fraternity," Cory said. Once he joined Delta Chi, Cory was afforded opportunities that helped him grow into the person he is today. "Before college, I was really shy. Then I became recruitment chairman and that flipped," he stated. "I learned how to network and speak with anyone. Everyone will tell you those qualities are crucial in the business and entrepreneurial worlds." By day, Cory is a systems engineer for a team in England and works with real estate. By night (and sometimes into the morning), he runs his own wholesale floral business. Delta Chi provided Cory with the necessary skills to successfully juggle these ventures. "I wouldn't be who I am right now if it wasn't for the people I met and the things I learned during my time with Delta Chi at K-State," he said. From the indelible imprint Delta Chi left on him, Cory knew supporting the Securing the Future of The Delta Chi Fraternity campaign was his chance to give a little back. "I felt it was only fair to return some of what I received in hopes that future Delta Chis will experience the same," Cory shared. "Giving to Delta Chi is a way to directly see the impact and feel that you've helped in the same way that we were helped by alumni." Aside from being a member of Delta Chi and a business owner, Cory is the proud father of two girls who are growing up to be intelligent and kind.
