The new small-group study. A Leading House for Leading Women New Updates Accommodate Growing Sisterhood F all is officially here. The actives have moved into the house. Recruitment is over with Kappa Alpha Theta once again gaining an outstanding new member class. The semester is in full swing—that means, of course, there is a lot of studying going on. During the research and planning stage of 603 Kentucky's renovation project, one of the most common requests from actives was more social space, especially with the addition of 20 women living in the house. It was decided to convert the back study room into a new TV lounge bringing the total number of social spaces in the house to seven. With that came the need to address the study spaces differently. Also taken into consideration was the change in how members study. Because so much is now done electronically, bright lighting, ample electrical outlets, and comfortable seating were a necessity. The end-result was bringing back the reading room (located between the living room and new TV lounge) to function as a large study space with more than a dozen comfortable spots for independent study. The old silent study room was converted into a group collaboration/study space, where doors can be shut for noise control. The old laundry room became the new silent study room with carrells and a big comfortable chair. Additionally, group study tables were added to the refreshment bar space so Thetas could host visiting classmates. Finally, when the board room (aka 55/99) is not being utilized for meetings, actives can also study there. Wireless printers were added to every floor as well. Academics have always been one of Kappa Alpha Theta's top priorities, and this is evidenced in the planning and execution of the renovated study spaces. With the additions and modifications, it is easier than ever for Thetas to continue to excel in their academic endeavors.
