S igma Phi Epsilon is fully committed to the highest level of success to restore Indiana Alpha as one of the leading fraternities at Purdue. Our alumni rightly have high expectations. e return of Indiana Alpha will not only bring back to life all the joyous experiences we so fondly remember, but will create a chapter experience that is the very best anywhere in the fraternity world. Restarting our chapter at Purdue will not be easy. Our commitment is to be different from the frat boy image. is requires us to examine why we failed, to understand the campus climate, and to determine what resources are needed to give our newly refounded chapter the greatest possible chance of success. Experience shows that developing successful young men requires mentoring by older, more experienced men and women. A cornerstone of our return strategy includes recruiting, training, and supporting a team of adult mentors, one for each undergraduate officer. at team is already in place and working with our newest members to build our future chapter. Mentoring provides guidance, which helps prevent mistakes of the past and directs talents and energy to places of greatest return. Recruiting paired with mentoring lay the foundation of strong character, which forms Indiana Alpha, even before we have a house again. at said, our fondest memories are made sweeter by the steadfast presence of our home on campus, our beloved 690 Waldron. A chapter is not a house, but all of us can agree that "the house" indisputably enhances the overall SigEp experience. Sigma Phi Epsilon cannot offer the same housing option we have provided for years with a realistic hope of remaining a leader within the Purdue Greek community. We face significant competition from the University, other fraternities, and private apartments. For example, Purdue has made significant investments in housing options with recent renovations of Earhart, Hillenbrand, and Shreve Residence Halls. Within the last year, Purdue announced a public-private partnership to construct two new residence halls, ird Street North and Meredith South. Among Greek competitors, Beta, Sigma Chi, SAE, Phi Psi, and Pike are just a few of the fraternities that have made major updates to their houses or are raising funds to do so. Additionally, FarmHouse Our Return to Purdue and Phi Sigma Kappa have both recently built new chapter houses. Ultimately, SigEp must offer a safe, attractive, and efficient facility to be competitive. A newly renovated home will help Indiana Alpha to attract and retain the kind of men we are looking for. anks to the successful work of our alumni leaders and two regional directors from SigEp Headquarters, our new Balanced Man Scholarship has become the cornerstone to recruiting our new chapter membership. It is aimed at incoming and existing freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors to identify the strongest candidates in the Purdue student body who demonstrate a desire for strong academic achievement, diverse life interests, and the pursuit of excellence in their endeavors. Ninety percent of the college experience takes place outside of the classroom. It is in this part of the college experience—the unplanned, unstructured hours—that students discover their passions and plan their futures. For our brothers, much of this time is spent with their chapters—it's where they build close bonds of friendship and learn how to communicate and work with others, to lead, and to speak in front of a crowd. Our brothers accomplish all of this through the Balanced Man Program (BMP). The Balanced Man Program is the centerpiece of the SigEp chapter experience and provides the experience that today's student needs to be successful during and after college. The Balanced Man Program is a non-pledging, non-hazing, four-year personal, academic, leadership and professional skills development experience.
