These funds are consistently used to provide valuable leadership opportunities for active members and help Illinois Beta re-establish itself on campus. Leadership development opportunities make a vital impact on our chapter. Please make a donation to the educational foundation today so we can continue to send brothers to leadership conferences in the future. We appreciate your generous contributions. YOU are what keeps Illinois Beta successful. Contributors are listed below in their cumulative giving level and are in graduation order. If an error has been made in recording the amount of your gift, please contact our campaign coordinator at (785) 843-1661. Thank you for your support! A ttending a formal recruitment event as a high school senior, Edward Hansen '87 had his first glimpse of life as a brother of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. "I felt most comfortable and at home with the brothers from ΣAE," Ed said. During the Illinois Beta bid party, Ed nearly left before Chuck Feeney '85, the Eminent Archon at the time, stopped him. "I did not understand that there was going to be a formal bid acceptance," Ed said. "I nearly walked myself right back to the dorms." Luckily for Ed, he stayed to be formally welcomed to Illinois Beta Chapter. Those four years became a critical part of his growth as a young adult. It was Ed's relationships with his brothers, especially his 1987 class brothers, that helped him become who he is today. Attending Paddy Murphy dances, chapter meetings, exchanges, studying together, and participating in intramural sports created a bond and lifelong friendships that Ed will cherish forever. During his eight semesters living in the chapter house, Ed knew he wanted to help Illinois Beta succeed. Through his leadership skills, Ed served as both Eminent Deputy Archon and Eminent Archon. "I sincerely enjoyed giving back to the chapter as an officer," Ed said. "I had great teams to work with, and we were a top 10 house on campus." Even as an alumnus, Ed has continued to support Illinois Beta throughout the years. "I have served on the alumni board in some good times and some not so good times," Ed said. "I'm hoping the chapter continues to evolve and improve so that it remains open for students at the U of I for generations to come." Ed knows the impact that ΣAE can have on someone and is proud to remain invested in the brotherhood. Ed has been a State Farm agent for 25 years and is fortunate to have several of his brothers as clients. With his two sons attending the U of I, he visits campus often and loves bumping into his brothers. Ed also attends the Phi Alpha golf outing each year and holds football season tickets.
