F rom the moment Hannah Villa Perry '09 stepped onto KU's campus, she knew it was home. "It was just something about the town as a whole, the students, the campus—I just love everything," she said. Hannah knew that she wanted to be in a sorority from a young age, so going through recruitment was a "no-brainer" for her. Much like her experience of knowing that KU and joining a sorority were the right path for her, she felt that same confidence when she visited Sigma Kappa. "I felt so welcomed in the house and just knew that I wanted to be a part of this organization," she shared. The relationships Hannah developed through her involvement with Sigma Kappa have undoubtedly help shape her as a person. "I can certainly say that becoming a member of Sigma Kappa changed my life," she said. "When I first joined, I had an instant group of friends who helped shepherd me through the first few years of college." Those friendships gave her the confidence to take on leadership positions within Xi Chapter as an undergraduate and within the national Sigma Kappa organization as an alumna. "I got involved as an officer, and I grew in ways I never thought possible," Hannah stated. "From the time spent in officer positions to the personal relationships I made both in and out of the sorority, Sigma Kappa really has so much to do with the person I am today." Hannah served as a Sigma Kappa leadership consultant for two years after graduating from KU, furthering her bond with her Sigma Kappa sisters and her passion for the national organization. "The most rewarding aspect of being a Sigma Kappa leadership consultant was certainly the personal relationships I made during my time as a consultant," she said. "I walked away with some of my best friends who shared one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences in my life." Hannah's maid of honor and two bridesmaids were on her first leadership consultant team, and her entire first leadership consultant team attended her wedding. Although Hannah is no longer leading the hectic life of a traveling leadership consultant, she stays busy as a wife, mom of two children, and a wedding planner in Savannah, Georgia. This is so helpful for me to remember when I am going through something challenging, knowing that whatever pain or growth that I am experiencing won't last forever. It's also helpful for me to keep this in mind to cherish the good and sweet moments in life and not rush through them. I think as young women we feel the constant need to rush into the next season of our lives, always wanting to skip over to the greener grass."
