KA Provides Moral and Culinary Compass 4 OMICRON UPDATE (Continued from page 1) Kappa Alpha Omicron Pizza Burgers Ingredients (makes 12): 1 package of favorite English muffins (Thomas' or Bays' are all good options) 1 tube Owens Spicy Sausage 1/2-3/4 lbs. course ground hamburger meat Sliced deli provolone cheese (12 slices for topper, you can also use mozzarella—your preference) 2 (5 oz.) jars Old English Sharp Cheese (not always easy to find) 1 Tbsp. butter 1 (4-6 oz.) canned mushrooms (pieces or sliced—your preference) Spices to taste: onion powder, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes (not sure Stella used this, but I like it) Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 350 2. Brown all meat together; add seasonings to taste (drain excess grease) 3. Stir in (drained) mushrooms 4. Warm (not melt) Old English cheese and butter in microwave to soften then stir into meat 5. Scoop/spread mixture onto English muffins and top with a slice of provolone or mozzarella 6. Place on cookie sheet and cook for 10-15 min. (until cheese has melted and browned) Freezing Option: uncooked pizza burgers can easily be frozen and cooked later "I made my fair share of bad decisions back then, but to have the opportunity to be a KA at Texas was a game changer and continues to be to this day," he stated. "I was heading down a 'slippery decision slope' throughout most of recruitment based on high school friendships. But from my first Texas Rangers baseball game with the Fort Worth crew, I knew KAs were for me." Although it took Jon a few months to admit Kappa Alpha was the right Fraternity for him and make a decision that old friends wouldn't agree with, his life has forever been changed thanks to Omicron. "I can honestly say the experiences I had and the friendships I made while being at KA at Texas have impacted me in almost every aspect of my life—from my faith to my career, as well as my involvement in the community," Jon shared. "I hardly make a move in life without consulting my closest friends from KA." Living in Dallas near several other Kappa Alpha alumni allows Jon to stay connected to the brotherhood through avenues such as work, trips, alumni clubs/associations, football games, and Bible studies.
