The A Publication of Delta Upsilon at the University of Missouri • Fall 2019 Duck call A fter three years of challenges and hard work, a significant milestone was reached on August 11 when our members moved back into the chapter house. Due to the tireless efforts of the housing corporation, particularly Ted Murray '71, the house looked spectacular and the atmosphere was electric in welcoming everyone home. The final step in our return to campus was recently achieved when Delta Upsilon International Fraternity (DUIF) approved our rechartering proposal. The chartering ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, November 2, at 7 p.m. in Columbia. We hope to see many alumni in attendance! Building on our momentum, the chapter participated in one of the largest formal recruitment events in years from August 14-17. Missouri Chapter was one of the most successful chapters, adding 24 new associate members to our roster and bringing our total membership to 91. We gained quality young men with GPA and ACT scores in excess of the university averages of 3.5 and 26, respectively. Of our 91 total members, 71 will live in the chapter house. The journey to moving into the chapter house has been a long one. Thanks to the efforts of DUIF staff, the house corporation, the chapter advisory board, and our loyal alumni, we are now close to the finish line. Thank you to everyone involved for your steadfast support. We couldn't have done it without you! Capital Campaign Update As of today, we have received roughly $2.74 million against our pledged total of $3.04 million, around 90% of our needed funds. Picking up the remaining $300,000 would provide a significant and needed financial boost for the chapter. We will be ramping up our communication to those of you with outstanding pledges, and we ask you to fulfill them by December 31, 2020. Delta Upsilon Returns to Chapter House Join Us for Missouri Chapter's Chartering Ceremony on November 2 After taking back the chapter house on June 1, we were excited to return our letters to the front of 711 Tiger Ave. The 91 active members were excited to move into the chapter house in August. In maintaining philanthropy as a top priority, Missouri Chapter volunteers at Columbia's food bank. At that time, we will officially close the campaign and use the total dollars received from each donor to prepare the permanent plaque and room naming rights. An event will be hosted at the chapter house to celebrate the contributions from all of our generous donors. We are hopeful the progress made over the past few years will inspire you to complete your pledge if you have not already done so. Fraternally, E. Bruce McKinney '74 President, Missouri Alumni of Delta Upsilon ebmckin@gmail.com / (816) 260-5735 O ver the past two years, University of Missouri officials have evaluated the Greek system to institute new policies providing for a safer, more regulated fraternity and sorority experience. With the conclusion of this effort, new recommenda- tions for Greek life operations will go into effect this fall. Inter-Greek Council Programming The fraternity and sorority community at Miz- zou is divided into four governing councils: IFC, Panhellenic Council, National Pan- Hellenic Council, and Multicultural Greek Council. Providing for a more inclusive and connected community, all four Greek governing councils will plan no fewer than two programs beyond the traditional January Greek leader retreat. Combating Hazing The university updated the "Rights of Those Who Report" and encourages all newly elected executive officers to review the outline and to feel empowered to report incidents of hazing to the Office of Fraternity and Soror- ity Life (OFSL). Individuals responsible for hazing will be treated individually, rather than the chapter as whole, per national fraternity/ sorority headquarters policies and the Mizzou Collected Rules and Regulations.
