F
inally, aer a long, hot
summer, the extended nights
are getting cooler.
Before you know it, winter
will have settled in with a grunt,
college basketball will have tipped
off with great fanfare, and the thin-
jacket weather days of September and
October will have dipped temperature-
wise into heavy-coat cold territory.
Cool, cold or engulfed by a raw
freeze, the prospect of sitting around
an outdoor fire, chatting and enjoying
a drink with family and friends, is
appealing.
"More and more people are
exploring fire in the landscape,"
said Robert Markley, the landscape
architect who does all the design
work for Landart Solutions LLC of
Fayetteville.
"I think it kind of comes back to
sort of a primal desire we have to be
outside and be around a fire," he said.
"Fire has that feeling to it. I think it
goes back to bringing some of our
childhood into our adult lives. To me,
a lot of people, particularly the older
generation, would go camping a lot.
Seems camping was more prevalent
to the past. is is a way to bring that
nostalgia of childhood into life."
About five years ago, outdoor fire
pits and fireplaces seemed to be all
the rage. at was followed by a lull in
sales, but Markley said a resurgence in
their popularity has taken place over
the last couple of years.
"You can use them all year long. It's
not restricted to being cool or warm,"
he said.
As part of its portfolio, Landart
provides residential services, creating
designs for outdoor spaces meant to
add character to a home. In business
since 1987, the company also serves
contractors and property managers in
Fayetteville and the surrounding region.
