"What types of music we do is diverse. All orchestras today play all kinds of music. Musicians love to share their passion with people." ose who make their homes in Fayetteville may take it for granted, but the city is fortunate to have its own orchestra, which happens to have been around since 1956. ough the musicians are now professional, the orchestra operated for decades as an all-volunteer bunch. Today, the 65 permanent members of the regional Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra hail from all over the state, including the Greenville area, Charlotte and the Raleigh-Durham Triangle area. A couple of the musicians come from Georgia and a couple more from Virginia, according to Deborah Teasley, the interim director. "at is the life of a musician to be able to perform their cra," she said. "Most of them are in other orchestras." Audiences attending the Fayetteville Symphony's programs have been growing, she noted: Last season the orchestra drew an average of approximately 500 people per concert. "We think it is extremely important to expand our audience," Teasley said. "is region is such a diverse region, and with different tastes. We have three great venues: Methodist University, Fayetteville State (University) and St. John's Episcopal Church. ose concerts are the ones that have a little bit more intimate settings. But the sound is fantastic.
