WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM OCTOBER 2-8, 2019 UCW 31 WEEKLY HOROSCOPE NEWS OF THE WEIRD by the Editors at Andrews McMeel Syndication Bright idea Joshua Jack of Auckland, New Zealand, received an email from his bosses at an ad agency inform- ing him that he was expected at a "redundancy meeting" to discuss his future at the company. Kindly, The New Zealand Herald reported, they suggested he was welcome to bring along a support person, such as a friend or family member. "Sensing the bad news, I decided I'd need the best support person available," Jack wrote on Facebook, "so I spent $200 ($127 U.S.) to hire a clown." As the coworkers discussed Jack's exit, the clown blew up balloons and folded them into animals. He mimed crying when Jack was handed his final pa- perwork. Jack said his bosses found the humor in the situation, and he has already landed another job. Awesome! Gerry Moore's goal with his latest project is "making people smile," and it's working. The Pensacola, Florida, man built a "boat car," a hybrid vehicle that looks like a boat on top but motors along the street on the chassis of a Ford Expedition. Moore's wife, Karen, said her hus- band completed the project in three days and made sure it was street le- gal before taking it out on the road. WEAR TV reported on Sept. 10 that the vehicle is a "permanent con- vertible," but Moore keeps a scuba mask and snorkel on board in case they get caught in the rain. Oh, the stupidity! Tyler Uher — whom Ohio Univer- sity has explicitly confirmed is NOT a student at the institution — suffered numerous injuries on Sept. 13, after he climbed an electric pole near the Athens, Ohio, campus to the cheers of a raucous crowd below. At the top, Uher, who had been drinking, grabbed a live wire, which sent sparks flying and set his hand on fire, report- ed The Daily Mail. He then lost his footing and fell to the ground, about 30 feet below. One witness was shak- en: "I thought he was dead. There's no explanation for him living." His inju- ries included three broken leg bones, four breaks in his back, numerous burns and other fractures. Uher's sister, Danielle, started a GoFundMe page to help pay his medical bills, but some weren't having it: Comments included, "What in the name of God were you thinking?" Athens police said that Uher may be charged with criminal mischief. Question: I really can't believe that they are trying to have Dan (John Goodman) be with another woman on "e Conners." I love Katey Sagal, but this feels wrong. No matter how people feel about the real Roseanne, the character of Roseanne Conner deserves better. It may be real life, but this isn't real life, it's TV, and I can't see Dan and Roseanne's marriage be forgotten or made to be nothing. If I didn't want to watch "e Conners" before, I don't want to watch it now. —Lorraine Matt Roush: Don't even Roseanne's survivors deserve a little happiness? Look, Roseanne Barr is the architect of her own misfortune when it comes to the way this revised reboot has played out, and besides, according to our re- porting in the our Returning Favorites issue, "Dan is still having difficulty get- ting over Roseanne" this season, even if Sagal's character of Louise is in- tended as a possible romantic interest for the widower. Sounds to me like, as with last season of "e Conners," the show and the fictional family will con- tinue to operate in the long shadow cast by its former title star, and if Dan attempting to move on presents emo- tional hurdles, that's in keeping with the way real life, not to mention life on TV, tends to play out. And I don't see how expecting the character of Dan to stay in a perpetual state of mourning would honor the character of Rose- anne anyway. To submit questions to TV Critic Matt Roush, go to: tvinsider.com. by Damian Holbrook Cheers to "e Dark Crystal" getting a glittering prequel. It's impossible to resist the Muppetized epic at the center of Netflix's wondrous "Age of Resistance," set years before the 1982 feature film and loaded with piles of old-school nostalgia — not to men- tion a brave Gelfling voiced by Taron Egerton. Jeers to GMA's "ird Hour." Nothing against Keke Palmer, but her new hosting gig alongside Michael Strahan and Sara Haines on ABC's renamed "GMA3: Strahan, Sara & Keke" means that the "Star" and "Berlin Station" standout will have less time for her scene-stealing roles.
