4 Think Back. Think Big. Think Beta. notice its immense scale compared to other fraternity and sorority houses of Oklahoma State University. As you walk onto the property you will be met by an impressive colonnade and porch, which will host future Gamma Lambdas as they relax and gaze upon the campus of Oklahoma State. As you pass through the colonnade, you can't help but feel the immense size of the house and the pride that exudes from it. Passing through the double front doors you will enter a grand foyer with a floor beset with the three stars of Beta. The stars of Beta are highlighted from above by a chandelier hanging below the Beta crest, which is surrounded by multicolored lighting. As you turn to your left, you will see the heritage room set with appropriate furniture for a room that displays the heritage and trophies of the Gamma Lambda Chapter. As you pass through the foyer, you will see the formal living room that will host many future splendid events. To the right you will find the dining hall designed to comfortably seat 110 as they feast upon food prepared in the large commercial kitchen off the west side of the dining hall. As you turn to your left or south of the dining hall you will find a TV and card room with three flat-screen televisions showing current sporting events around which you will likely find a multitude of active members. As you retrace your steps down the hallway leading to the dining hall and go past the foyer, you will find the doors to the Chapter Room on your right. Further down the hallway on your right, you will find a dormitory wing where there are seven two-man rooms designed for upperclassmen. On down the hallway on your left you will find a spacious stairway leading up to the second and third floor bedrooms. When you ascend to the second and third floors, you will find 28 four-man rooms, restrooms and showers on each end of the dormitory hallways, laundry rooms, storerooms and much more. No doubt, you will find members and pledges congregating in the third-floor lounge. As you descend down the west stairwell, you will find yourself once again in the dining hall. You can then leave through the back of the house where you will enter upon a parking lot designed to park 103 cars. In a Greek neighborhood struggling with little or no parking for the fraternities and sororities, the ability to park over 100 cars is a fact attributable to the vision of almost 100 years of the Building Corporation leadership. Finally, on the west side of the house next to University Avenue, you will find the Beta basketball court emblazoned with the Beta Dragon. Now that we have given you a verbal and pictorial tour of the New Beta House at 1207, it is time for me to make an ask. During your walkthrough, I would ask that you take note of what is not in the Heritage Room—the Donor Wall. A wall has been reserved for a list of our significant donors, which will be memorialized in a respectful and permanent fashion such as in granite. It is not too late to have your name on the Donor Wall. To qualify to be on the Donor Wall you must pledge no less than $2,500. When you see the New Beta House at 1207, you will see what the stewards of your Beta House have been able to accomplish, but keep in mind that even though we raised over $3.6 million, there remains a significant debt that must be retired. On behalf of all who have donated time and dollars, I ask that you consider pledging or increasing your pledge to the capital campaign. Later this fall, you will receive a letter with a list of all the names of those who have contributed to the capital campaign and who qualify to be on the Donor Wall. This will likely be the last chance to get your name on the Donor Wall. If you are not on the Donor Wall, would you like to be? If you are on the Donor Wall, would you like to increase your pledge so that you qualify for the next higher donor group? As I have passed the quarter century mark of work on the Beta Theta Pi Building Corporation, I am induced to reflect upon our struggles and our successes. In the end, I must note that all of our brothers who have donated their time over the last 26 years have done an exceptional job of stewarding the Gamma Lambda Chapter of Beta Theta Pi. It is difficult to accomplish anything more lasting than the building of a fraternity house; yet, the building of the friendships I have made along the way will stay with me as the greatest gift. During my tenure on the Building Corporation, I have been fortunate to build friendships with brothers from different eras; brothers that I would not otherwise have met. As this is likely the last opportunity that I will have to address each of you who read this, I want to say thank you for your support of the Gamma Lambda Chapter and thank you for allowing me to serve on the Building Corporation. Yours in _kai_ Greggory T. Colpitts'88 Treasurer Beta Theta Pi Building Corporation IT IS TIME (Continued from page 1)
