Bob Costas Moving from a sports-oriented space into more general interviewing, Costas applied his vast pop-culture knowledge to inaugurating NBC's "Later," steering single-guest programs that sometimes ran so long during the taping that they were turned into multiple episodes. Greg Kinnear Now a movie star (and an Oscar- nominated one at that), Kinnear got the call to bring his sly wit to "Later" after Bob Costas' departure, hosting the show while also continuing to send up the genre by still presiding over E! Entertainment Television's satirical "Talk Soup." Conan O'Brien The former "Simpsons" writer could (and frequently did) credit David Letterman with creating a taste for off-the-beaten-path comedy in the wee hours, setting up O'Brien to be able to follow in those footsteps when he succeeded Letterman on NBC's "Late Night." Craig Ferguson Ferguson's trademark stream-of- consciousness left audiences (and CBS executives) constantly unsure of what to expect from his years on "The Late Late Show," and while some of the results were head-scratching, others were deeply compelling – such as the conversation he had with Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Jimmy Fallon "Saturday Night Live" alum Fallon followed Conan O'Brien into the "Late Night" hosting seat, relying heavily on comedy segments with guests – as he still does, now that he's hosting "The Tonight Show" – to make his mark as someone who was, and still is, eager to please his audience. Seth Meyers A different kind of "Saturday Night Live" humor – call it "smart snark" – is marking Meyers' tenure as the current keeper of "Late Night," since the "Weekend Update" veteran typically uses cerebral one-liners to raise the level of conversation (and, on occasion, to decimate a guest with a quip and a smile). James Corden The cherubic British import, who has made his mark with such segments as "Carpool Karaoke" – putting him at the wheel while he and a music superstar guest belt out the latter's hits – and by engaging multiple guests at once will keep at it for some time to come.
