It All Started Here:
The Story of Alpha Mu
K
appa Delta has a rich history at Ole Miss dating back to 1927. Over ninety years
ago Kappa Delta initiated the first young women into the charter class of our
Alpha Mu Chapter. ese women le their legacy, and now our chapter has initiated nearly
4,000 women into this sisterhood. Whether you were initiated in the charter class, 1954,
1982, 2000, or today, Alpha Mu has been the place where many of us had our best college
memories.
e women of Kappa Delta have continually made their mark on campus and in our
communities. Alpha Mu has been home to homecoming queens, community leaders,
successful business women, educators, national officers for Kappa Delta Sorority
Headquarters, a president of the Ole Miss Alumni Association, and so much more. Our
undergraduates and alumnae are building confidence and inspiring action in everything
they do.
e epicenter of our experience as Kappa Delta women can be found in the walls of 84
Sorority Circle. It is in the rooms we lived in, the dining room we ate in, the chapter room
we met in, and the beautiful foyer that greeted us every time we walked into the house. is
is the house where we gained confidence, built lifelong friendships, supported one another,
found a community, and continued to grow our own strength.
Even though our alumnae now span across the United States, the bonds we created in
Kappa Delta and at our home are everlasting. However, our chapter house has continued
to age since it was built in the late 1920s. To remain competitive on campus and provide
the space needed for a chapter of close to 450, we must address the long-term viability of
our house. Now is the appropriate time to secure our future.
"My favorite memory in Kappa Delta is having my three sisters and
me share Kappa Delta sisterhood. My father was so proud of us and
would have pledged too if he had had the chance!"
