MVD photo update TSA ID rules take effect Oct. 1, 2020 ADOT MVD urges Arizonans to get the Travel ID PHOENIX – With approximately 300 business days left until Oct. 1, 2020, the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Divi- sion is urging customers not to de- lay getting the Travel ID to ensure they have an ID valid at TSA airport checkpoints and federal buildings. "This date is looming large for Ari- zonans with driver licenses and ID cards," said MVD Stakeholder Re- lations Manager Jennifer Bowser Richards. "We don't want to see peoples' travel plans ruined because they don't have an ID that meets the upcoming new federal TSA check- point requirements, but that's a very real risk for people who don't get a Travel ID." Customers who wish to get the Travel ID can make an appoint- ment at servicearizona.com to visit an MVD offi ce. Many Authorized Third Party offi ces also provide li- cense and ID services. The cost is $25, and the Travel ID replaces the current license or ID and re-sets the expiration date. Under federal law it's valid for 8 years. In order to get the Travel ID, cus- tomers need to bring in a document such as a birth certifi cate or valid U.S. Passport to prove identity and a second document with their So- cial Security number. Finally, two pieces of documentation proving Arizona residency such as a utility bill, bank statement or something similar with a current name and physical address (not a P.O. Box) are also needed. Bowser Richards added, "There are customers who plan to simply use a Passport even if they're just fl ying to someplace like Atlanta, Denver, or L.A., which is their choice, but we suggest that the Travel ID is more convenient. Other customers have told us they rarely, if ever, travel by air, but having a Travel ID would be valuable in case of an unexpected trip that required air travel." State law requires that Arizona mo- torists be given a choice between be- ing issued a non-federally compli- ant credential or getting the Travel ID. Arizona is among 37 states to offer this choice. For more information and to apply for a Travel ID: getthegoldstar.com Arizona law requires that you up- date your photograph every twelve years, regardless of the expiration date of your driver license. To de- termine whether your photograph has expired, look at the date your license was issued. If your license was issued prior to 2007, your photograph is due for an update. Please visit any MVD offi ce or se- lect Authorized Third Party offi ces to update your photo. • Bring your current driver license. You will receive a temporary license at the offi ce and a replace- ment license with your new photo will be mailed to you. • A $12.00 fee will be charged. • Authorized Third Party Driver License Providers may charge a convenience fee in addition to the MVD fee. This is a good opportunity to update your license to the Arizona Travel Driver License (additional fees and documents required). Effective October 1, 2020, only REAL ID Act-compliant creden- tials like the Arizona Travel ID and Arizona Travel Driver License, a U.S. passport and other federally approved identifi cation will be accepted at TSA airport security checkpoints for domestic travel. More information on how to ap- ply for the Arizona Travel Driver License is at azdot.gov/travelID. Note: If you do not apply for a Travel Driver License, your new driver license will say NOT FOR FEDERAL IDENTIFICATION. For offi ce locations and hours: visit www.azdot.gov/mvdloca- tions. Recently QPD has had several reports from businesses and the community about calls from someone identifying themselves as member of the Quartzsite Police Department (QPD) and looking for donations. This is a scam. The Facebook post stated, "We are not calling members of the community or businesses asking for donations" There are specialty projects with- in the department that do collect donations, but those donations are not solicited by telephone. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Quartzsite Po- lice Department (928) 927-4644 or qpd@quartzsiteaz.org. Thank you again for all of your support! Why do winds and waves rise in the ocean surrounding us? I only earnestly wish that the wind will soon puff away all the clouds which are hanging over the tops of the mountains. -SHINTO PRAYER FOR PEACE
