Spring 2019 A L P H A E P S I L O N P H I A T T H E U N I V E R S I T Y O F I L L I N O I S Mu Chapter Strand of Pearls SUMMER UPDATES POSSIBLE THANKS TO GENEROUS DONORS Mark Your Calendars for May 2-3, 2020, for Our Mu Chapter Centennial Celebration H ello Mu Chapter Alumnae, We know it is spring when our beautiful Magnolia tree is in bloom! I was recently in Champaign for my spring House Corporation visit, and as always, I loved spending time with our chapter members. During my visit, I let the executive board know that we would be updating the second-floor bathroom flooring and toilet stalls along with painting the rear stairwell wall. We have had to significantly reduce the summer projects over the last couple of summers because we have not filled the house recently and have also had some major unexpected expenses such as a kitchen remodel so that the City of Champaign would allow us to provide food service to our members. Replacing the living room flooring was an important project to the women, and when I explained that the funds were not available, not only did the chapter members allocate chapter funds to this project, many dedicated parents, alumnae, and chapter members donated individually to the chapter house annual fund. I am pleased to let you know we have raised enough for this project to be completed over the summer break. I hope that you will consider your own donation to the annual campaign. This fund allows important upgrades and updates to be done to our chapter house, and we have some outstanding major items on our capital improvements list. These include a new hot water heating system and electrical upgrades that would allow our members to have A/C units in their bedrooms. It is vital that we are able to provide a safe, comfortable, and updated facility for our members as we enter the next 100 years at Mu Chapter. Housing competition continues to increase with several chapters building new facilities and many new apartments opening in Champaign that provide luxury amenities. In this issue I am sharing some before photos of our rear hallway and living room floor and will have photos of the completed areas in our upcoming fall newsletter. The countdown to Mu Chapters' 2020 centennial celebration has officially begun! Our centennial weekend will be held May 2-3 with a luncheon on Saturday at the beautiful I Hotel and Conference Center. We will also have a block of rooms reserved for the weekend and will conclude with a brunch and house tour on Sunday, May 3, at the Mu Chapter house. We hope that many alumnae will join our collegiate members in Champaign for this special occasion!
