For my future in San Francisco, I will leave that in Gods hands. He was a big key in Baltimores 34-31 Super Bowl victory against the 49ers on Feb. 3 in New Orleans. Boldin made six catches for 104 yards and the games first touchdown, and also had five receptions for 60 yards and two TDs in a victory over New England in the AFC title game. The 32-year-old Boldin had 65 catches for 921 yards and four touchdowns for the Ravens. Now, he will switch from playing for John Harbaugh to younger brother and 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh as the receiver begins his 11th NFL season. We are excited to add Anquan to our roster, 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said in a statement. He is a highly competitive and productive player with strong leadership qualities that will be a welcome addition to our team and commu- OLYMPICS (Continued from page 1B) earned silver in the 50 free with a blistering time of (29.02) and finished third in the 100 Individual Medley (1:12.94) and the 200 IM (2:32.32). In the 100 Butterfly, she came in fourth with a time of nity. Last spring, the 49ers did something similar when they signed wideout Mario Manningham and running back Brandon Jacobs, both from the New York Giants the team that beat the 49ers in overtime of the NFC championship game. With Manningham working back from reconstructive left knee surgery and Randy Moss not expected to return after one season for the Super Bowl runner-up, Boldin brings the kind of big playmaking ability that should fit in well with strong-armed Kaepernick and complement Michael Crabtree in the offense. Boldin was due to earn $6 million this season in the final year of his contract. After he and the Ravens failed to agree on a restructured deal, Baltimore worked the swap with San Francisco rather than simply cut him from the roster. After playing his first seven NFL seasons with Arizona, Boldin spent the past three years with the Ravens. Boldin and former Cardinals teammate Larry Fitzgerald were in West Africa con- tinuing their efforts with international relief. Boldin was expected to remain in Africa through Thursday and was not immediately available for comment aside from his Twitter posts, and the 49ers wont plan anything formal until he passes a physical. Also Tuesday, the 49ers sent backup quarterback Alex Smith, the 2005 No. 1 overall draft pick, to the Kansas City Chiefs in a swap that gives San Francisco an undisclosed pick in this Aprils draft and a conditional pick in 2014. Smith still must pass a physical in Kansas City to complete the trade that was reached two weeks ago. Free agent safety Dashon Goldson, the teams franchise player last season, was scheduled to meet Tuesday with Tampa Bay officials, a person with knowledge of the session said. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the meeting wasnt made public. Goldson, who has spent his first six NFL seasons with the Niners, made it clear he did not want to return to San Francisco on a one-year deal and would head into the offseason open to hearing from all teams as he sought a multiyear contract. (1:14.42). Balken brought home a gold medal in the 100 Backstroke with a AAA time of 1:10.03 and also broke a SOAR record in the event. He placed second in the 50 back (34.46) and 100 IM (1:14.07). Balken was in the hunt for third place overall and was seeded third in the 200 IM and fifth in the 50 fly but became ill before the finals and was unable to compete. Balken finished sixth overall in competing in just five events and qualified to compete in the Far Western Championships next month in Morgan Hill. Julia Brandt, despite being on the young side of her group, enjoyed much success. In the 50 free she finished eighth with a AA time of 26.51. He had 69 tackles, three interceptions and a forced fumble last season for the NFC champions. Goldson played on oneyear contracts each of the past two seasons, including on the $6.2 million franchise tag in 2012. Im not expecting anything, he said as he packed his locker two days after the Super Bowl loss. Somewhere. Anywhere. Hopefully, it will be this team. But Im open to all 32 teams. Jim Harbaugh said when the season ended that resigning Goldson was among his top priorities. On March 4, Goldson said on his Twitter account, Im very thankful I didnt get the franchise tag again but still hopeful this means something long term with the San Francisco 49ers! Then Monday, he posted, Things are jingling in the football world today, with a hashtag of theracebegins. Earlier in the day she broke the 26-second barrier as the lead swimmer in the 200 free relay with a time of 25.99 that was good for third place. In the 100 free event, Julia Brandt made the finals and finished ninth with a AA time of 57.42. She also was a member of the second place 400 free relay team and the third place 200 medley relay team. She finished 14th in the 100 fly (1:05.41) and the 100 breast (1:15.82) and rounded out the meet with an 18th-place finish in the 200 breast (2:46.08), 19th in the 200 free (2:06.04) and a 27thplace finish in the 100 back (1:08.25). Jordan Brandt, who competed in her first Junior Olympics, dropped 1.13 seconds in the 25 back event (23.07) to place 22nd in the 8-and-under age group. These four swimmers commute to Redding three to four days per week for practice. Anyone interested in swimming for SOAR this summer in Red Bluff is asked to call Kathy Brandt at 530345-4775 or email her at kandjbrandt@gmail.com . ALAMEDA (AP) The Oakland Raiders cut ties with two former first-round picks on Tuesday by releasing starting receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey and defensive back Michael Huff. The Raiders also cut defensive end Dave Tollefson and re-signed cornerback Phillip Adams to a one-year deal before the start of the league year. The moves to get rid of Heyward-Bey and Huff leave just three of Oaklands former first-round picks on the roster with linebacker Rolando McClain also expected to be released this offseason. The lack of production from high draft picks is a major reason why the Raiders have lost the second-most games in the NFL over the past 10 seasons with 111. Oakland has failed to post a winning record or make the playoffs during that stint. Late owner Al Davis death in October 2011 led to drastic changes in the organization with Reggie McKenzie taking over as general manager and hiring Dennis Allen as coach. The team went 4-12 under the new regime last season as McKenzie began a major roster overhaul that is still ongoing. While Heyward-Bey has been mostly a disappointment in his career, the move to get rid of Huff comes as some surprise since he was the teams most consistent defensive back last season. SPARTANS his team up 9-2. Junior outfielder Nick Schluep then hit an RBI single to right, which was followed by an Evan Sinclair RBI single up the middle to put the Spartans up 11-2. MacDonald would then score on a wild pitch that forced a called game because of a 10-run rule. Sanders said he liked that Red Bluffs bats have started to come alive, but still sees room for improvement this early in the season. In the games weve lost its been defensive break downs that have cost us and pretty much other than that weve been in every game, adding, Right now were not playing well enough at the plate. Were not hitting well enough to have lackluster defense. The Spartans three losses all come from Pleasant Valley (5-1). Red Bluff next host Paradise (3-6) at 7 p.m. Friday. (Continued from page 1B) of the fourth after walking Mazamas Dallas Devry, who was driven in by a Jimmy Marguit RBI double to left field with two outs. (Igarta) actually didnt have his best stuff today, said Ryland Sanders, who is in his first year coaching the varsity squad after an eightyear stint coaching junior varsity. He threw really well last week and I think he was a little tired but what I liked was he battled in tough situations, he didnt give in and really helped his team by eating innings for us. The Spartans are coming off a 21-8 season last year, which included a 17-game winning streak but a loss in the first round of Northern Section Division I playoffs. Up 8-2 going to the bottom of the sixth, the Spartans loaded the bases with one out. Red Bluffs Will MacDonald, who was called up from junior varsity for the day, drew a bases-loadedwalk to score Fox and put Sports Editor Andre Byik can be reached at 527-2151, ext. 111 or at sports@redbluffdailynews.com.
