Downtown Fayetteville Wows Others Recently, the Rocky Mount City Council and staff came to Fayetteville for their staff retreat touring downtown as a part of their two day schedule. They were looking to bring back ideas to revamp their downtown area and a IHZ WKLQJV WKH\ ZDQWHG WR VSHFL¿FDOO\ YLHZ RQ their tour included North Carolina Veterans Park, the Airborne and Special Operations Museum, 300 Hay and the Hope VI development. A day later, the front page headline read in the Rocky Mount Telegram, "Downtown Fayetteville Tour Wows City Council." During the tour, they met with new City Manager Ted Voorhees at NC Veterans Park and listened as Craig Hampton, the project manager behind 1& 9HWHUDQV 3DUN DQVZHUHG VSHFL¿F TXHVWLRQV about the park. Next, we took them on a bus tour of Downtown Fayetteville where they rode while hearing the historic perspective and about some of the development projects completed from the 2002 Renaissance Plan. With that the tours of downtown residences is where we could see a visible awe from the group. Touring the spacious and beautifully decorated penthouses in 300 Hay to local architect Eric Lindstrom's home with his rooftop deck seemed to whet their appetite to see similar types of available living spaces in their downtown. The tour went on and it was a great day to be able to showcase what we have in Downtown Fayetteville that was just starting to revitalize a decade prior. And what a decade is has been! Here are a few projects that have been completed since 2002: Festival Park: Home of our award-winning Dogwood Festival and International Folk Festival as well as Fayetteville after Five, outdoor movies and concerts and more. Streetscape treatments: Our beautiful brick lined sidewalks, underground power, overhead lamp lighting, tree canopies and Hurley pots are by no accident. Hay, Person, East Russell, Green, Gillespie, Old and a couple of others have received attractive face-lifts as will a few other streets in the coming years. NC Veterans Park: 7KLV LV WKH ¿UVW VWDWH SDUN dedicated to military veterans from all branches of the Armed Services: Army, Navy Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard and downtown was chosen as the grounds for this all-important, world class park.
