(AP) — John Danks hadn't pitched in a game since last May. The 10 months that passed since felt like 10 years to the Chicago White Sox left-hander. The last two hours before Danks started Chicago's spring game against the San Francisco Giants on Monday seemed like an eternity to him, too. ''I tell you what, the clock stopped at 11 (a.m.),'' said Danks, who took the mound at 1:05 p.m. Arizona time for the first time since he faced the Cubs at Wrigley Field on May 19. ''I felt like I kept looking at the clock, waiting for the game to start. Once I got on the field and started warming up, it felt a little more in my comfort zone.'' Danks looked comfortable in his 35-pitch start, throwing 27 for strikes and allowing one run on two hits and no walks with two strikeouts. One of the hits was a home run to left field by Joaquin Arias, the second batter he faced. After that, Danks retired five batters in a row before allowing a leadoff single in the third to Kensuke Tanaka. ''I feel good right now,'' said Danks, who threw mostly fastballs and changeups. ''The test will be tomorrow and the next day. So far, so good. As I was going back out there for the second and third innings, I didn't feel like I was losing anything. If anything, it was starting to come to me a little bit.'' Danks made only nine starts last season and, after trying to rehab through his shoulder injury, had arthroscopic surgery in August to repair a capsular tear and minor debridement of the rotator cuff and biceps in the shoulder. Monday's start was an important step in his recovery process. ''I'm glad it's over,'' he said. ''I couldn't have really asked for more. I don't want to give up homers, but my main focus was throwing strikes and I was able to do that.'' Ryan Vogelsong allowed three runs on four hits in his third spring start for the Giants. Vogelsong made his last appearance before he joins Team USA for the World Baseball Classic. He threw five scoreless innings over his first two starts. ''It's early,'' Vogelsong said. ''My location has been pretty good, so that helps.'' Matt Cain pitched three innings in relief, allowing two runs and five hits. Cain's spring ERA is 6.43. White Sox outfielder Dewayne Wise hit an opposite-field, three-run homer near the left-field foul pole against Josh Osich, who inherited two of Vogelsong's baserunners. Jeff Keppinger, signed in the offseason to play third base for Chicago, singled three times in three at-bats and stole a base. Alexei Ramirez doubled in a run and Paul Konerko singled in a run. NOTES: Vogelsong on the possibility of pitching to teammate Pablo Sandoval in the WBC: ''I'll probably throw it right down the middle. Or one in his ear.'' ... Giants first baseman Brandon Belt (1 for 3) has 10 hits in his last 15 at-bats. ... Madison Bumgarner, who is working on a more compact delivery, starts Tuesday for the Giants against the Indians. He showed what he could do as a starter. Jaso had a bases-loaded triple, Brandon Moss had two hits and an RBI, and the Oakland Athletics beat the Los Angeles Angels 13-5 on Monday. ''He's always had good numbers but it's still good to see him hit like that,'' A's manager Bob Melvin said. ''He got that triple off a left-hander and he's had good at-bats this year.'' Jaso, a four-year veteran, was obtained in a three-way trade from the Seattle Mariners to backup catcher Derek Norris. Vernon Wells hit a three-run home run, extending his hitting streak to five games, and reigning AL Rookie of the Year Mike Trout had three hits for the Angels, who lost their third straight. Howie Kendrick and Scott Cousins also drove in runs. Josh Reddick, Jed Lowrie and Moss each drove in runs in the fifth to put Oakland ahead to stay. Angels starter Jason Vargas went two scoreless innings, walking one and striking out one in his first outing of the spring. ''I felt pretty dialed in,'' Vargas said. ''I mainly threw fastballs and tried to pound the strike zone. I threw a couple of decent change-ups but that's not something I'm worried about. It's been there for a while.'' A's starter Dan Straily allowed two runs on four hits over 2 1-3 innings. He struck out two. ''The inside fastball to right-handers was what Curt (Young) and I talked about before the game,'' Straily said. ''That was something I got better doing. It wasn't the greatest outing but I'm still working on stuff to get better.'' Melvin didn't seem worried. ''He pitched well,'' Melvin said. ''He's working on things and gave up a couple of runs.'' The A's scored six runs in the eighth, all charged to Chad Cordero, on five hits. Jefry Marte's two-run double was the big blow. Outfielder Shane Peterson, the only A's player to appear in all 10 games, went 1 for 2 and is hitting .435.' A pair of Lady Spartan underclassmen received Sac River All-League honors Monday. Junior guard Brittany Clatty was named to the AllLeague team, while sophomore guard Daisy Brose received an honorable mention. Clatty led Red Bluff with 10.5 points per game. She also averaged 5.2 rebounds per game and 1.4 steals. But it was her performance during the league campaign that truly impressed coach Kathy Brandt. "She really brought it on in league. She played real well," Brandt said. Clatty raised her average to 14.6 points per game during SRL play and shot 48 percent from 3-point range and 83 percent from the foul line before getting hurt. "Not often do you have a high school player shooting 48 percent from 3 point line," Brandt said. Clatty's back-to-back 3-pointers clinched a crucial road victory at Shasta. Brose was the Lady Spartans' defensive spark plug. She led the team with 3.3 steals per game. Her defense and hustle turned into points on the other end as Brose finished second at 9.7 points per game. She also grabbed 4.2 rebounds per game. "She's defiantly our best defender on the floor," Brandt said. The Lady Spartans finished the season 16-9 and 4-4 in league play. Joining Clatty on the All-League team were Enterprise's Jordan Kimbrough, Rachael Martin and Kimira Sanders, Foothill's Ashley Rothman, Shasta's Danielle Chabolla and West Valley's Aubrey Mendonca. The other honorable mentions were Janae Gray (Enterprise), Aubrie Wall (Foothill), Emmi Peterson (Shasta) and Taylor Ross (West Valley). The All-League boys team was led by a trio of Enterprise Hornets in Kaelan Crisosto, Jordan Spaschak and Andrew Fitzhugh. They were joined on the team by Foothill's Brett Cloney and Shasta's Austin Ajamian. Brandon Evers (Enterprise), Elijah Putnam (Foothill), Brandon Eboigbodin (Shasta) and Eric Young (West Valley) were honorable mentions. Brisiel restructures contract with Raiders ALAMEDA (AP) — Oakland Raiders offensive lineman Mike Brisiel has restructured his contract to give the team salary cap relief. Brisiel converted $3 million of his $4.35 million base salary into a guaranteed roster bonus paid next week, agent Jeff Sperbeck said in an email. The restructuring was first reported by the Bay Area News Group. Brisiel is in the second year of a $20 million, fiveyear contract. He struggled in his first year with Oakland and underwent major ankle surgery in the offseason to fix a problem that hindered him during the season. Brisiel was brought in for his experience as a zone blocker, but Oakland is switching to a more powerbased blocking scheme this year under new coordinator Greg Olson.
