27% of alumnae responded "Yes," 70% said "Maybe," and 3% said "No." This
response is below average compared to other Pennington & Company studies. Of
those who responded "Maybe," a majority felt they did not have enough knowledge
to know if the alumnae base is capable of such a large goal. Having a realistic goal
is important to a capital campaign as alumnae want to support a campaign that will
be successful.
Building early momentum in a campaign by securing commitments from the
Mississippi Beta alumnae leadership, the collegiate chapter, and key alumnae will
be essential to developing further confidence in donors and demonstrating overall
campaign success. It is important in any future fundraising effort to secure
leadership-level commitments early on, as it will help influence others once the
campaign reaches the mass mailing phase. Having strong early support will help
inspire donors to stretch their own commitments. It is critical to build sufficient
campaign momentum throughout a project so that alumnae feel the campaign goal
is attainable and the proposed project is realistic. Providing confirmed construction
costs and a financial pro forma in the campaign materials will help confirm the
chapter's ability to afford the project, thus increasing alumnae confidence in the
reality of the project's completion.
