all want), we must provide a superb house that is pretty, safe, current, and proper
size to attract top quality potential new members."
Next interviewees were asked about specific strengths of the project. Most alumnae
reacted very positively to the proposed renovation and expansion plan provided by
the chapter house corporation and view all project highlights as necessities.
Alumnae shared the following sentiments about the proposed project:
"Simply being able to accommodate the chapter for dinner and meals is a
must. Having dinner together was a major part of everyone getting to know
each other in the chapter." – 1970s alumna
"I cannot imagine what 400+ women look like for chapter meeting. We
maxed out the chapter room at 200 in the 90s. A larger space is much
needed." – 1990s alumna
"Sleeping more women is key. It is a great way to get close to your sisters.
If they have nice bedrooms to look forward to, it will help with chapter
member retention and so on!" – 2000s alumna
When discussing the weaknesses of the proposed project, several alumnae were
concerned about the scope of the project and if it was large enough to sustain the
growing membership. A 1970s alumna said, "As the numbers continue to grow, I
do not feel like this addition will be enough. Only adding 25 beds doesn't seem
sufficient." Other alumnae requested more details, such as financial projections,
site plans, and final dimensions. Several alumnae asked clarifying questions
regarding financing, amenities, and a displacement plan. Alumnae questions and
concerns are listed below:
