C. Attitude toward proposed project
In this section of the feasibility study, the interviewees examined the proposed
renovation and expansion plans of the chapter house. Using the project highlights,
architectural renderings, and cost estimates, each aspect of the plan was discussed
in detail. Responses are summarized in the following paragraphs.
Alumnae were asked to assess how important the project would be for the future of
the chapter. As shown in Chart C, 98% feel the project goals are "Very Important"
or "Important" to the future success and longevity of the chapter. This high ranking
is an above-average response compared to other Pennington studies and is a
positive indicator that alumnae see the necessity for the project and may have a
desire to support the project should the alumnae leadership move forward with a
campaign.
Broad understanding of the project's importance is an indicator of strong support
in a capital campaign. Of those who stated the project is "Very Important," alumnae
recognize the urgent need to compete on campus. A 1970s alumna said, "I totally
bought into the need when I saw the other houses and understood the competition
aspect." A 1980s alumna said, "To maintain a top presence on campus (which we
