Dr. Wernher von Braun and his team
arrived on Redstone Arsenal – the military
installation on which MSFC is located – in
1950. A year later, RFCU opened its first
branch there.
As the credit union for Redstone Arsenal,
RFCU supported those who supported the
Apollo program. Engineers deposited their
paychecks there, scientists took out loans
for a new car and welders saved for a down
payment on a house.
So when it comes time to celebrate Apollo 11's
successful mission, it truly is a celebration
of, and for, the entire community. And
with so many events happening, there
are opportunities for everyone to get in
on the fun!
"No matter where you live, everyone
can be involved in the celebrations," said
Ammons. "e global rocket launch is a
perfect example, as it can be done from any
location. Just fill out a form on our website
(rocketcenter.com/Apollo50), and then you
can be part of our world-record attempt at
the largest rocket launch."
e rocket launch will take place on
July 16, 2019, marking the launch day
of the Apollo 11 mission. at day, when
Saturn V launched the moon landing
mission, is certainly one of Huntsville's
finest moments.
