MU NEWS Χ Ω Mu Chapter of Chi Omega at the University of California-Berkeley Spring 2019 Striving for a Better Campus Mu Chapter Leads the Way in Academics and Safety M u chapter had a wonderful start to our spring semester. In January, we initiated our fall 2018 new member class. Soon after, we welcomed eight new members into our sisterhood due to the hard work of Recruitment Chairman Tayler Sulse '17. "It has been such a pleasure bonding with this new member class through Bid Day, the first 14 days, and during new member meetings," New Member Educator Lauren Kapp '18 shared. This is a sentiment shared throughout the chapter. We were thrilled to initiate these new women in April. SCHOLARSHIP BEFORE SOCIAL OBLIGATION Vice President Kathryn Kemp '18 is proud to report that Mu chapter achieved the second highest GPA in the CalGreeks community for fall 2018, with an impressive 3.45 cumulative average. This is a testament to the hard work of our sisters, as it is higher than both the all- women's GPA and all-Greek GPA at Cal! We are delighted to see this work turn into accomplishments, such as Lindsay Timmerman's '18 acceptance into the highly competitive Haas School of Business and Hannah Farrell's '16 pursuit of a Ph.D. at the University of Chicago after graduation. We were excited to hold our biannual Scholarship Dinner, in which sisters invited their professors and graduate student instructors to learn about their research and celebrate the chapter's academic achievements. MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN OUR CHAPTER AND COMMUNITY At Firesides in February, Personnel Chairman Anissa Cervantez '18 and I were provided with resources to empower our members' mental health and comfort with bystander intervention. Our sisters continue these goals, participating in organizations such as CalGreeks Alcohol Task Force, Greening the Greeks, Greeks Against Sexual Assault, and the Health Worker Program through University Health Services. Mu is incredibly proud of our sisters' altruistic work and knows it will make our community a safer and more accepting space for all who join it. Looking ahead, we are excited prepare for fall Primary Recruitment. Thank you to our alumnae for your continued support. As always, feel free to visit the chapter house at any time; we'd love to have you!
