2A Daily News Friday, March 1, 2013 Community people&events Tri-County Sams monthly report Due to the normally inclement weather in February, the Tri-County Sams Chapter of the Good Sam Club canceled its February Campout and held a Luncheon and Meeting at the Iron Skillet Restaurant in Corning. Representatives of eight member rigs, three guest rigs and one other guest was in attendance. After an enjoyable lunch, members held a meeting and had a Moment of Silence for beloved member Jack Love who passed away in January. He will long be remembered by all members. Guests introduced were potential member Don Gerfen of Chico, Joyce and Clyde Burt and Joe and Sabra Marano of Klamath Falls, Ore., who are Good Sam members in Oregon, and Nancy Mattos of Orland, who was a guest of member Wayne Barry. The Good Sam Members from Oregon were staying in the Red Bluff RV Park and read the last news item in the newspaper and called the president to see if they could attend our luncheon and meeting to get to know us. It was reported that the flag pole holder has been repaired so that members can now display the California flag along with our other flags at outings. Wayne Barry was appointed as new Historian to replace Bonnie Love and Pearl Divine will now take over as Sunshine Chairwoman and Birthdays and Anniversaries. The March 8-10, 2013 Campout will be held at the Gridley Inn & RV Park, with Bob and Pearl Divine as Trail Bosses. Some of the members will be meeting at the Black Bear Diner in Willows at 9 a.m. for breakfast and then travel together to the RV Park. Sharon Furia, the 2012 Chapter Sweetheart, selected Pearl Divine as 2013 Chapter Sweetheart, presented her with a box of Chocolates and crowned her for the year. Anyone owning a self-contained RV that would like to go on monthly campouts with a great small group of campers are encouraged to call Wagon Master Lisa Sol at 385-1344 or President Richard Sol at 200-7403. Members are really encouraging interested RVers to contact them as they are still trying to increase membership and have recently lost two member rigs due to deaths. SECRET WITNESS 529-1268 One telephone pole at a time It was painful to watch her try to walk; albeit not as painful for me as it was for her. Sit down, I suggested, pulling up a chair, wanting to relieve her of her burden. She stared at it, shakily supporting herself with her metal cane, the type with four rubber-capped legs that stands on its own. Do you have a chair without arms? She asked, referencing her size with a flick of her bulky arm. Its hard for me to fit in this type of chair. I scurried away and returned with the requested model, placing it behind her. She sluggishly lowered her heaviness on to the seat, all the while leaning weightily on the cane for support. After placing herself, she exhaled a strained sigh of exhaustion, took a moment to regain her composure, and said, Hi, Im Sheila. I need to lose weight.
