ALPHA AVALANCHE | TEXAS ALPHA | PHI KAPPA PSI | | SPRING EDITION 2019 RECRUITMENT READY TEXAS ALPHA STRATEGICALLY PLANS FOR RUSH 2019 Texas Alpha is gearing up for Fall Rush 2019! Along with enthusiasm to recruit the best class possible, we have made a few changes to the process to increase success. This year we have one head Rush captain instead of two. To assist with recruiting members across the state, we have appointed local Rush captains in Houston, Austin, Dallas and out of state. These captains will be responsible for the planning and execution of all local Rush functions. We are still looking to add a few members to the Rush team, specifically in Austin and Houston. The Goal, Timeline and Plan Our goal is to, again, sign 60 new members (the number we signed in 2018). Our Rush list currently contains 324 names – compared to 106 last year – and we have contacted rushees early to put Texas Alpha on their radar before the summer Rush process even begins. The overall quality of the active chapter will also help us immensely with Rush this fall. We can utilize every brother in the Rush process to show rushees that we have a strong chapter. The event plan for Rush this summer is to have two to three small events in each city every week. The smaller events will be used to vet rushees and provide a more laid-back environment to build relationships. We will then have a large event in Austin where all local groups will meet to showcase the house. RUSH EVENTS May 18 Rush Kickoff, Barge Party at Lake Travis June 22 Texas State Tubes Float Trip July 20 Rio Day Trio August 2 Rush Closing, Barge Party at Lake Travis August 27 Bid Night Party HOW ALUMNI CAN HELP Events Some of our best Rush events in years prior have been thanks to alumni and their support. Whether it's business tours at NASA or the Star in Frisco, tickets to baseball games or access to restaurants, alumni interaction and engagement during Rush shows the long-term value of Texas Alpha and it's expansive network. If anyone is interested in taking guys out on their boat, donating tickets to a baseball game, providing access to their restaurant, setting up a business tour or helping with Rush in any other way, please contact Head Rush Captain Sam Duncan '18 at (317) 450-7313 or samduncan450@gmail.com. Recommendations If you know of incoming UT students who you believe would be a good fit for Texas Alpha, please fill out the Google form posted on the Texas Alpha Facebook page or send a prospective rushee's name, phone number, hometown, and high school to Database Manager Nate Arispe '18 at (214) 620-7991 or nrarispe@gmail.com.
