2 Lambda Lamp F or the Faenger family, Lambda Chi Alpha became rooted in their lives when Bob Faenger '62 decided to join the brother- hood in 1957. After careful consideration, Bob decided ΛXA was the only way to go. "After go- ing through that first year, my brothers became family," Bob said. "How could I not stay?" Upon Bob's initiation, his younger brother, Gene Faenger '65, got to know many Alpha- Delta Zeta members before he came to Rolla to start school. Fortunately, the decision to join ΛXA was hardly a challenge for Gene. "Every- one was great," Gene said. "There was no other choice for me." When their younger brother, Al Faenger '68, pledged in 1961, it truly became a family affair. "I never gave it a second thought not to pledge," Al said. Throughout each of the brother's time in the Chapter, they served in several leadership posi- tions both in the Fraternity and around the Mis- souri M&T campus. "ΛXA provides brothers with people and administration skills for life," Gene said. "All of us are examples of that." After graduating, the Faenger brothers stayed in touch with both the Chapter and their brothers. Bob even credits his younger brothers and their respective pledge classes for saving the Chapter during a less than fortunate time in Alpha-Delta Zeta's history. Al and Gene served in a number of alumni leadership roles in the late '90s with Gene serving as House Corporation president and on the board of directors. It is not uncom- mon for the brothers to get together with alumni from Al and Gene's pledge classes a few times a year. "We Faengers stay in touch," Bob said. The brothers are also impressed with the cur- rent state of the Chapter and trust the good name of ΛXA is in good hands. The Faengers will never forget their time at Alpha-Delta Zeta and the memories they continue to make with their brothers now. "It is a Fraternity for life," Gene said. "It has been an experience I would not trade it for anything." Bob Faenger '62 Throughout his career, Bob worked in research and development for three different companies, including the McDonnell Aircraft Corporation. He worked on the U.S. Air Force fighter aircraft, Projects Mercury and Gemini, and even helped put the first space station in orbit. Bob lives in Springfield, Missouri, with his wife of more than 54 years, Jacquelyn, where they enjoy gardening and volunteering their time at the Ozark's Air and Military Museum. They have two children, Chris- topher and Laura, both of whom graduated from Southwest Missouri University. Gene Faenger '65 Before retiring in 2003, Gene worked in a num- ber of engineering and management positions, and in his spare time, he enjoys hunting, fish- ing, golfing, and traveling. Gene lives in Saint Louis, Missouri, with his wife of more than 50 years, Barbara. They have three children; their youngest son, Tim Faenger '94, followed in his father and uncles' footsteps and pledged ΛXA at Missouri S&T. Al Faenger '68 Al spent his entire career in the oil industry, first with Pan American and then with Union Texas Petroleum. He later returned to Houston, where he worked in new venture analysis, but retired in 1996. Al now lives in Saint Louis, Missouri, with his wife, Patricia. They have two children, Micki and Scott. He and Patricia also enjoy working in their garden and traveling.
