Page 3 "All I was thinking is that I want to get as far away from Florida as I can," Jack said. "So I sat down and I wrote letters to four northwest colleges asking for catalogs, including Washington, Washington State, Oregon, and Oregon State. Of those four, Oregon State happened to have the best fit for me." While Jack's two years at Oregon State flew by, he's been loyal to the chapter as an alumnus. Jack contributed to Alpha Lambda's capital campaign and hopes that you will do the same if you haven't already. Jack loves hearing about the successes of the chapter in each issue of the Alpha Lambda Logos. "Oregon State is a really strong university for fraternities and sororities, so to be a top chapter at a top campus like OSU is certainly amazing," Jack said. "Ironically, the house that they are going to replace, I've never seen the house. To me, I still think of that as a brand-new house because that was built aer I le. Now there is going to be another new one, and I'm excited for it." Jack had another reason to stay connected with the Alpha Lambda Chapter aer he graduated, other than keeping up to date with his brothers. During Jack's senior year, the chapter hired Lillian Mares to be the housemother. Lillian was from Flandreau, South Dakota, which was just 20 miles from where Jack grew up. "We had a lot of mutual friends. She and her husband had actually shopped at my dad's hardware and tire store in Pipestone," Jack said. "We had a personal bond. She stayed on there as housemother for maybe somewhere between six and 10 years." Jack and his wife, Leila, have kept their roots up north in Wisconsin, but have a second home in Hawaii where they stay during the winter. ey kept busy over the winter with volunteer work, yard work, and driving their underbirds. You can connect with Jack at jacknessen@ centurytel.net.
